Their strategy against the US is much different. It's just an updated attrition battle the Russians are known for. They just mass supply cheap and plentiful counters to the US war machines. If they need 100 cheap AA positions to destroy a 30 million dollar aircraft, it's still a win on the accounting spreadsheet.

The problem there is the US isn't a one-trick pony. While our on-the-ground personnel are... iffy right now, tech-wise we have great tanks, aerial forces, and a good navy. We have a lot of tools. While they could shoot down our fancy aerials tuff... we could also basically drag them into an aerial stalemate ourselves. Which would then turn it into a ground battle, where we hold the clear advantage.


It'd be bloody as all hell, but the winner of that confrontation is rather clear.

Russia lost 8 jet fighter-bombers and 14 other aircraft when it smacked Georgia in 2008. Georgia was using the newest at-the-time American AA systems. It was basically the only part of the war Georgia did well at. Russia was VERY not happy about this, it considered its aircraft losses unacceptably high, and instituted a total review of its air strategy and tactics and equipment to avoid a repeat of that.
