I'm probably going to be called a niggerfaggot for believing in le clibate chanbe :DDDD but because of droughts and shit in the future China will be super dependent on Russia for food imports, especially now that Russia is going to hold one of the most important bread baskets. So they will play nice out of neccessity.

Not even comparable situations, retard. Russia today has a smaller economy than Italy and it's about to get even smaller with the new sanctions. Militarily, it's completely dwarfed by the US alone. As far as targets go, where are they going to go? Central Asia? Who would give a fuck? The Caucasus? Armenia is already Russia-aligned, Georgia has already been neutered and is irrelevant, and Azerbaijan enjoy direct Turkish support and fine relations with Russia. The only parts of Europe Putin could target that are not already under NATO or the EU are Belarus and Ukraine, anything else would mean war with a nuclear power.

The world and countries in question are comedically different. Quit drawing middle school level false parallels.

That said as far as I can tell the ground forces invading Ukraine are reserve or second-line troops while the main force is behind them for occupation.

Ukraine was a basketcase at the time. Still is, really. They didn't have the resources to secure them let alone maintain them so they could work 30-odd years later. It was in everyone's best interest that weapons grade nuclear material was kept under lock and key of the US.

Figured it out? The Nork missiles can barely reach Seoul and the program only exists because the Soviets and Chinese lent them their scientists and tech decades ago. The only way Ukraine could have gotten a functional nuke is if westerners decided to hand nuclear weapons to a barely-functioning kleptocracy.

Using non-uniformed combatants is a straight-up Geneva Convention violation, and would result in those people having the status of "illegal combatants" - the least-protected status in warfare.

Remember, the Geneva Conventions guarantee special protections to people of the following status:
  • "Civilian": You're not a legitimate target. "Proportionality" restricts whether you may be killed as collateral damage in a strike against a legitimate target near you.
  • "Privileged combatant" (i.e. regular soldier): You must be properly treated as a POV when captured.
An "illegal combatant" has neither of those protections.
Thus it's something you really don't want to call on your population to become, except as a matter of last resort in the face of extinction.
So either, the Ukrainian ministry of defense is really desperate - or they're assholes who would gladly sacrifice their citizens' legal protections in an effort to hold on to power.

... Or maybe they're just banking on the Western world / courts not giving a fuck about the Geneva Conventions anymore in the Current Year, and simply declaring all that Russia did illegal, and all that Ukraine did legal, by fiat.
