no thats not right. the bomb was scaleable to 100MT but it would have destroyed the plane carrying it so they backed off to 50MT. still was a waste of time though. most of the explosion was vented into space.

Even though it didn't destroy the plane, I recall reading that the blast was so immense the plane lost a shitton of altitude when the thing went off, and despite the fact the plane firewalled it and got a fair distance away.

And yeah, a 50MT nuke, to say nothing of 100MT, is insane as a usable weapons. Most ICBM warheads are actually in the kiloton range.

apparently this is video of the dogfight over Kiev earlier today. Ukrainian air force says one of their pilots got aced today. 6 kills, including some of the VDV helicopters. you can see the top plane manuevering to get a shot on the bottom one. top plane was also doing its best to keep bottom one in sight.

From WW2 until very recently, Finland had one of the highest unregistered gun ownership rates in the world. Nobody cared if you took a pistol from a dead rooskie home with you. It's absolutely amazing how some people have deluded themselves into thinking one of the poorest regions of Europe is a massive prize. Exactly what valuable commodity is Ukraine providing that Russia doesn't already have?

It's not about land or even resources, really. From the Russian point of view, it's about ensuring that Ukraine never joins NATO, as that would be an unacceptable threat to their security.

Personally, I don't see how Putin going in with an all-out invasion force will successfully get Russia those goals, when there were far cheaper and more diplomatically beneficial methods of doing so.
