Steve1989MREInfo / Steve1989 / Steve Thomas - that guy that eats old MREs

It's amazing how the lack of facial hair makes him look both younger and douche-ier at the same time, isn't it?

Interesting ration too, first time i've ever seen boxed milk and cereal in a military ration, especially in a tropical country. But of course that is UHT milk so it can be kept outside of the fridge for months to a year or so without problems. This is definately one ration drink that Steve is NOT going to be sampling 20 years after expiry however!

Honduras is not a wealthy country and obviously they had to improvise with this ration, literally buying things off grocery store shelves. As Steve noted, it has a one year shelf life. It would probably not survive much longer than that. Despite that, its contents are mostly things people would actually want to eat.

The main dishes were tamales that looked like they were actually hand-made in-house. They definitely looked good.

It seems like they'd have a problem continuing to produce these if they had to move from peace-time to some kind of typical Central American conflict where shit goes on for years and nothing ever gets better, or worse, an internal civil war. Because there wouldn't be grocery stores to buy shit from.

The Norwegian, Swedish and French stuff were also (largely) things available to customers but not in a bundle like that. It makes sense in many ways to do it like that if products are available. I've tried to provide links to buy the norwegian reindeer stuff previously, the one he really liked, it's generally available locally in any sports store that sells shoes suitable for going into the forest. For what it is I can say that Real Turmat is really good. Turmat means hiking(tur) food(mat) if anyone is curious.

Things used to have more military branded goods from the military in Scandinavia going into cheap, cheap surplus, including gasoline. UnoX was the one their selling gas I think, they sold gas coming from the huge mountain cisterns shortly prior to the expiry date.

Wonder how much would MRE erceptions change in the states if they went back to coproducing with grocery brands to provide MREs or do what the Europeans do

Gotta say, it's a rare treat seeing Steve be a bit of a dork and not know how to eat a tamale. He knows how to operate all these self-heating packets and makeshift stoves but he eats the banana leaf.

Not even making fun of him, it was fun watching him make a rare mistake and kind of endearing.
I was surprised too. I guess it make sense that Steve's threshold of "is this edible?" is a lot lower than the average person's.

Ain't gonna lie, I chuckled when he tried to eat a bit of the banana leaf wrapper. Those tamales looked awesomely tasty, btw.

I fell in love with a...Salvadoran I think? tamale from where I used to work years back there was a sweet older South American lady who thought I was too damn skinny and at least once a week on lunch break she would bring me one or two of her homemade masa and chopped egg tamales, and god DAMN were they both filling and tasty as hell. Especially with a little dash of hot sauce, as Steve noted.

I miss those, but I can't get my tamale fix unless I try to make my own. Where I live in Canada, real Mexican restaurants are few and far between the Taco Bells and Chipotle's and other soulless faux tex-mex dreck. Actual South American? forget about it! I have to go across the border to Blaine WA where the 'Paso Del Norte' is the only real mexican restaurant around and with COVID, border crossing for lunch or dinner just isn't happening. :(

"Can I eat this?" is the eternal obstacle of his channel so it makes sense.

Looks like a fallout 76 npc

Don't worry, the newfies will make a canadian out of you yet
I can actually tolerate Screech now that its not just terrible rum anymore. Really modern Screech is no different from any dark rum made all over the world. It's the name that makes it interesting not the taste.

It's a far cry from the early 1900's when Screech was first made where they would just wash out rum barrels with pretty much raw alcohol and sell it to the local for pennies.

Mock the Newfie's as much as you want, and we do, but they are some hard ass mothers choosing to live on that cold barren chunk of rock.

I know he shares a lot of subs with Townsends but he really drops political jabs with his titles the same way Townsends does
In the sense that "he doesn't?" Poor Jon was so upset when everyone started accusing him of a Trump joke. The closest I've seen Steve get to edgy humor, other than discussing toilet paper, was that "they went full retort" joke recently.

Anyway, in these divided times, at least we can all be glad that Steve's grown his beard back.
