I mentioned this in another thread but one thing about Smiling Friends that I really liked is that every episode, at least in my opinion, was entertaining. Usually other adult shows have hit or miss episodes that just feel kinda meh; weak story, lazy jokes and/or an over reliance on toilet humor.

This show is amazing and makes me smile just thinking about it. Thank you to the funny goblin man and ozzie who made it happen.

I wasn't entirely sure if that article was parody or not, pretty funny guy.

Honestly comes across as chad sigma male who hates the toxic friends, queer and morty, but loves the Marvel and Disney. Based.

Glep, we have a problem. I honestly didn't mind the show... but you're aggressive and toxic and we need to cut it out.

Love it. Hated Hellbenders and don't watch OneyPlays so I expected this to be retarded as shit, but it's probably the best thing on the channel since China IL.

It made me smile :) I think the Mr. Frog episode is my favourite. My only minor critique is we need more episodes with Alan and Glep. Like Zach said, though, the episodes weren't really meant to put a critical lens on topics but more just to laugh. I can't wait for season 2!
I like the show and the fact that they just want to put a smile on the viewers' face. It's a real breath of fresh air, it's not rude, vulgar or full of edgy violence, it's only 2 guys who want to make people smile.

(from the article)
>Unfortunately, Cusack is no Roiland, and Smiling Friends is no Rick & Morty. It’s no Big Mouth, not Inside Job, it’s not even up to par with Solar Opposites.
Wait, it's a bad thing?

Had a moment at my job where I was looking for an office that I wasn't familiar where exactly it was only to be so close to it without realizing it. I said out loud "We were right there!"

Watched it and fucking loves it. I can’t wait for its future.

Also, is it true that this entire season had less budget under it than one episode of Family Guy?

Zach confirmed the budget for the entire season was less than one episode of Family Guy which is 2 million per episode. I heard rumors that the budget was even lower and somewhere around $30-50K per episode which is about the same kind of budget Aqua Teen Hunger Force had to work with (a show almost entirely animated in Photoshop).

The Mr. Frog episode is great because there's some clear mockery for the producer; how he hires Glip for his edginess and then immediately tries to squash it in order to not come off as 'offensive and toxic'. He genuinely thinks making something milquetoast saved the show despite the rabid fans knowing exactly what they want.
The producer was modelled after a character from this banned short Zach made:

And yes, it was banned on YT because of hurt fee-fees.

Retrospective: AS really loathes this show and doesn't want it to succeed.

All they did was dump all the episodes in a marathon nobody knew about as if they had some obligation.

There was no marketing or mention of this show before it released.

Here are my 3 theories:
* AS staff/marketing dept is really incompetent
* Some wokeist tried their best to make this show not happen; its marketing and promotion goes against pretty much anything.
* Someone bet/dared AS to put this without marketing thinking it will succeed on talent alone, and some AS exec went with it.

I’ve mentioned this once or twice, yet the marathon drop wasn’t a “they hate the show” thing. They fully intended to have it drop next day on HBO Max, then their lawyers said “not until the full season is over, we have obligations”.

Thus the shadowdrop, and the appearance on HBO a month later.

That being said, I have absolutely zero doubt that certain people at AS are utterly seething at this show’s popularity, especially the Birdgirl crew. Their S2 announcement was utterly drowned out by the Smiling Friends S2 announcement, absolutely no one gave a shit about them. Seasons being so cost-effective to make for SF are going to make this show effectively evergreen unless serious controversy happens, which isn’t exactly unlikely when considering it means “old-school Newgrounds humor” clashing with woke current-day shit.

i have never seen an actual human person say anything about birdgirl. from what i can tell, it's a spinoff of a classic [as] show, but without anything people liked about the original. why is it pushed so hard?

With that show, it literally can’t be overstated that it includes nothing of what people liked about the original. The original, while also being a genuinely funny show, had its main hook of “Look at all our old characters in fucked-up situations!” when it was genuinely novel.

Birdgirl just cuts out all of that for like no reason, and makes it some weird kind of boring, woke office comedy.
