My bet is that she completed a “statement” of what happened and when, and the detective probably advised her that her statement would become part of the evidence if it went to trial - not that it would be used “against her” just that it would become part of the official record.

Minor PL but I once saw some random guy just haul off and punch another dude for no real reason. When I went in for my statement one of the RCMP officers had to write down everything I said, even every um as I was thinking. After it was all written out I had to read it over and sign it saying that yes this is what I said.
