isn't there some rule in the Geneva convention that you just can't arm civilians in a war or something? They would need uniforms and insignias for this not to be a war crime, or am I wrong about that?

Probably something like this:

Red areas essentially are allowed to govern themselves, but assuming that the Ukrainians put up enough of a fight to preclude the entire country falling or the US/Europe dumping enough advanced weaponry/glowies into Western Ukraine, I could see Putin also grabbing the entire northeastern part of the country + the areas around Kiev (due to its historical importance in the Russian triune of Russia, Belarus, and Kiev).

The latter areas could be placed under Moscow & military control to ensure a more direct administration & control in case things get unruly.

That makes alot of sense. If they tore up Ukraine along those lines, whats left of Ukraine is basically a sort of Belarus Junior. A landlocked economically doomed garbage can
of a country with almost no industry and very few natural resources. By its very nature, it would be unlikely to pose much of a threat to the Russians in the future.

Meanwhile, Zelensky is autographing flags for Ukrainian soldiers.

Looks like his role is solely PR at this point. Probably for the best.

He's a fucking game show host, this is about all he's qualified to do. If only Ukraine's elites could have offered up a competent puppet, none of this would have happened.

Gotta try to increase morale enough that the defense doesn't immediately crumble. Can you imagine your capital city being under siege in like 24 hours from the start of war.

I see a lot of people talking about volksturm, but Ukraine is a conscription country to my knowledge? In that case pretty much all men have gone through some training and are considered reservists.
So was Germany. The vast majority of the Volkssturm was made up of WWI veterans and boys who were taught how to shoot in the Hitler Youth.

Reddit administrators have silently begun banning people discussing a counter-resistance and have begun silently banning anyone threatening Putin with harm or advocating violence towards him. Try it yourself.
Can't. Got banned for sayin pedos should be shot.

This just in:

On whose side?

So the end-game then is to divide the Ukraine then and set-up a new capital...where (this is assuming Kiev either doesn't fall or isn't included in some kind of settlement)?

You only need some distinctly identifiable symbol. If the Ukrainians all wear yellow armbands and the Russians wear red ones, then that is it.

It's like one of those teams sports you used to play once in high school and then forget about. Except with guns, tanks and artillery.

Don't forget the non-zero chance to die, get permanently maimed, or otherwise suffer from grevious injuries.
