This is a textbook war of aggression under any meaning of the term in international law.

That's an independent issue from whether Ukraine's government was dumb beyond belief to up the stakes to the point this happened.

Ukraine didn't have much choice, really. Coups and counter-coups with behind the scenes gayops on all sides interrupted with periods of a neighboring country breaking off pieces of you isn't sustainable.
