President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

I agree with everything except this notion that Ukrainians are doing well. What is the evidence?
They've been heavily stalled and are massively behind schedule according to British and American intelligence. Washington was afraid Kiev could fall in a matter of days yet Russia hasn't even managed to secure air superiority yet. They're already having logistical problems

This doesn't mean Russia is out of the fight like some hypebeasts on twitter would like you to believe but to say they could be performing better is a massive understatement

I don't believe the reports that Russians have lost 1000 tanks, 5000 soldiers, 200 planes. But I think that the fact they haven't successfully encircled Kiev yet, that they tried multiple times to attack Kiev, Kharkov, and Mariupol, a minor city that is just next to Donetsk and Luhansk, isn't a good sign for their army.
That's reasonable - they might have advanced with too small a force.

Why should I believe them, what is their reasoning?

These faggots didn't know there was a Ukraine until a few days ago.
Its Twitter. Ignore them. Works like a charm. Those that know Ukraine (or at the very least recognizes the name) are those who studied the USSR's history (which is quite a few).
Last time I checked Ukraine was one of the most corrupt countries in the region, with a barely developing representative government. Why are we now deifying it?
Think of every single country as corrupt as fuck. There is no such thing as a """non-corrupt""" government, otherwise we wouldn't be having the globalization/economy/terrorism/human rights violations/etc. issues found in every single government, democracy or otherwise. Personally, I see the Ukraine vs Russia thing as two corrupt shitters fighting over the last cardboard box.

It seems silly really, but here is a key point on this one; while Russia is seemingly not the master of the battlefield it claims to be - their information/disinformation campaigns are very effective. They're good at them, with the west only just catching up in terms of doctrine and use.

What campaigns exactly? Troll bots?
What about Chinese troll bots and misinformation campaigns? So you're basically saying that western social media users are retarded to the point you need to ban them from reading certain things or otherwise they will fall for it?

Well I guess i know why Covid paranoia spread so easily in the west then.

Most people behave logically, but according to the information they have. If you don't have the same kind of information they have, you will think they are irrational. You also need to understand their perspective.
I think it was Null who tried to delve into why Terry called them glowies, as schizo people still work off of a form of logic, but just one that's unique to them. Null's theory was that in the dark you can't see the darkie, but their teeth stand out if well maintained, thus making them glow. Which is interesting because I remember someone I know describing a black guy at night as a set of shining teeth that was obscured otherwise and this person was about as normie as they get.

I feel bad for the Ukrainian people, as this seems to be the people in power's fault. I have no trust in that Ukraine is going to win with "power of friendship". And it would be for the best to just give Ukraine to Russia without fight.

These are my thoughts exactly. As bad as i feel for them I don't feel like this is worth all the lives lost and everything else that will come with a war like this. Goes without saying such opinion will enrage already overly emotional internet but meh. Let Ukraine sort out their shit on their own.

Dude, their country is being invaded. And for one, this could be fake, or this is probably an isolated incident, or that guy could just share the names of that woman's father. Notice how it cuts at the part when there should have been a reaction?
It could be fake, sure, I obviously can't prove it but people being sent photos of their mutilated family members from crash sites is not an unheard of occurrence.

Ukraine's strategy is to make the Russians pay for every single inch. Cede nothing.

Like the guy fucking with the tank, he didn't stop the tank and his friends hauled him out of there before he could be smooshed, but if you've got enough gas in the tank to go 20 mph for the next four hours (or whatever) and enough random civilians fuck with you so you're a half hour behind schedule, that's going to leave you 10 miles short of where you need to be.

And then your tank is out of gas in the middle of BFE and what are you going to do, kick in the door of a nearby farmhouse and help yourself to their shit? That's going to make you popular. Especially if the babushka inside is packing.

And as far as a unifying strategy for Ukraine, I know there are probably pro-Russian civilians in Ukraine waiting to greet the invading army as liberators, but this seems like a fantastic way to get all the pro-Ukrainians on one enthusiastic ride-or-die team.

I watched a variety of TV news today and one of the things the commentators generally agreed on is that Putin could probably achieve a handy military victory in Kyiv by bombing the shit out of the place, but what's going to happen when the bombing is over?

He grabbed this Tar Baby and it is 100% his.

Well, it could be worse. Carpet bombing is an option. I think Russia should have done that already on a smaller urban area to spread fear.

This is why I advocate for a pure removal of globalization. If every country developed their own nation, they can sort things out and it would not deal with forced intervention (unless the situation is very terrible). Sadly, the generation we are living in has made this impossible and I wish my country could do the same instead or relying to the Chinks or the US to give us weapons/commodities.

You can't see regular black folk at night, but even a black fed GLOWS.

dust kicked up by Russian troops currently at Chernobyl shows on radiation map of Europe. These levels are not dangerous unless they're in sustained contact for weeks or months. This is just from the soil being churned into the air. It appears to blow up into Belarus right now.

If there is a break in the dome or much more dust, it could become dangerous to troops in the area of the plant. It's unlikely to become dangerous further away unless it's purposely burned or bombed.

Nuclear capability is what makes this the impossible dream.

Because it's in the personal/rational interest of me/my family/my country you fucking retarded monkee. 99% of you niggers still don't get that the 19th century is over and the income of every American depends to a certain degree on our allies in oversea. In the next post you will probably tell me why we don't need Western Europe or the Saudis.

That's what Hunter Biden would say.

Yes, I can tell you why we don't need the Saudis, it was called the Keystone pipeline.
