Yeah. Back when a gallon of gas was $0.99 and so was a Whopper. You could buy a pack of Luckies nonfilter for 8 quarters from the cigarette machine at the grocery store. No social media, no smartphones. It’s really sad to think that as fucked up as things were back then and they were because nothings perfect, things were 100x better than they are now and they’ll never be that good again, (at least as far as the US is concerned, can’t speak for anywhere else).
Ok grandpa. Let me explain how inflation works. At that time minimum wage was $4.85/hr. Meaning the costs of goods in purchasing power from earnings were pretty much the same.

You may now go back to slowly masturbating about the tragic loss of pets.com, America Online, and the General Motors Saturn division.

I really don't understand the significance put on the use of fairly basic atomic weapons in Japan. If you are horrified by the use of atomic weapons then I recommend you look up the US firebombing of the home island. Just as many casualties but burning to death, dying in a ditch from burn injuries, or asphyxiating due to a firestorm is better than dying by a nuclear blast wave. I am not saying it was better but just putting things into perspective. WWII was horrific by modern war standards in terms of loss of civilian life and humanity.
If you're going to defend the nuking of Japan, you might have a better time with this anecdote: in preparation for the invasion of mainland Japan, the US government printed up so many Purple Heart medals that we are still issuing them to this day, and that was only a fraction of what they expected to need for the long haul.

Speaking of Putin, I wonder what made him return as president.

He was president during Dunya then retired I guess and some stock looking Russian became president and then all of sudden, he returned back and has been pissed off ever since.
The Russian constitution limited a president to two consecutive terms, so he instead sat out a term as Prime Minister and put a puppet in the office while waiting for his eligibility to be reset.

The constitution got updated in 2020 to limit presidents to two terms in total but also carved out an exception that gives Putin an extra two terms of eligibility starting from the next election which means he'll likely hold the presidency until his death.

From the little i can glean from that, he never really got popular and putin basically just took back over because of him being weak.

Belarus' job will be simple, block off all supplies from the western border. At which point it becomes a much worse kind of war of attrition for Ukraine, one where supplies on their side become finite and all Russia has to do is dig in and wait.

There are almost no Ukranian troops in this area so it wont be all that challenging for anyone attacking

The problem is that its the Belarussian army....I dont put much faith in their ability to do anything but beat up protestors and its close enough to poland you may see clandestine NATO support so i dont think it will get far but hey, maybe they will pull it off

America's ruling class would have gladly gunned down the entire Jan 6 crowd and openly fantasizes about nuking the heartland. The only reason they don't commit Stalinesque crimes against humanity is because they can't, not because they're better people than him.
Don't forget the fact that the American government literally murdered a man's wife and son because he wouldn't let them entrap him, or when they mentally tortured a bunch of religious nutjobs. America does not have a clean rep when it comes to caring about its people.

Well, sonny, back then you could walk into a job making $12-$15 an hour in a plant or in a shop with nothing more than a GED and a good word from a friend already there. The only folks working for minimum wage were burger flippers and back then they were all high school kids and not elderly women who can’t afford to live off their Social Security checks alone.

Is invading another country a war crime? Seems to me like that would mean at least one side of every war is automatically a war criminal.
It’s more complicated than that.

Basically, you can avoid being a “war criminal” by:
1. Fighting for a “Just Cause”, like fighting to protect civilians and not just to annex or puppet.
2. Fighting the war with restraint. Not using weapons that would be unusually harmful or be uncontrollable. Poison gas is bad for the latter reason, once the wind takes it the cloud of death can go wherever. Enemy trenches, your trenches, that town with civilians across the way. It’s irresponsible.
3. Ending a war justly, which is a lot of legalese and basically means not just executing everyone because they lost.

Obviously there is a lot of idealism here and a lot of ways to dindu nuffin, but 90% of the time it works.

Pls send me her location so that me and my ruskies can capture her and do stuff.

I can see why Ivan loves to rape and loot.

Also is it true when Russia was ruled by the Tsars that fathers would fuck their daughters in bumfuck villages?

S'why they are being used this way. Don't need to be good soldiers to simply lock down every road coming in. That just needs basic checkpoints, and a bit of recon to make sure nobody sneaks through.

Would you prefer the West to just bomb any country that confronts them?
I would prefer that the US not engage in retarded gambits like Ukraine that would never work in the first place. Its a directionless Neo-Liberal looting project that is getting thousands killed and likely the destruction of infrastructure across an entire country. Even brain damaged uncontacted tribal peoples have the sensibility to understand that you immediately work to cut down an opposition tribe if they're suddenly arming themselves, first by diplomacy then by overt force before the opposition tribe gets too strong. Anyone who has studied great power politics in the 19th and 20th century knew exactly how this Ukraine situation was going to play out once they started talks about taking in large amounts of Western arms and spoke about joining NATO. Now the US and Europe once again look like feckless bastards who abandon allies in need, right on the heels of the Afghanistan shit show.

I just hope Russia quickly and decisively completes their aims and the war doesn't bog down into an endless insurgency leading to millions being displaced and killed with the country being devastated from end to end. I'm a generation that grew up with "Forever War" and I don't want to see either the Ukrainians or Russians stuck in it either.

Don't foget the fact that the American government literally murdered a man's wife and son because he wouldn't let them entrap him, or when they mentally tortured a bunch of religious nutjobs. America does not have a clean rep when it comes to caring about its people.
It's funny how every happenings thread, regardless of topic, eventually works its way back to Waco, Ruby Ridge, and the fact that the ATF should be abolished.

Don't forget: jobs were being shipped overseas by the tens of thousand every month. Dozens of plants were closing each month. Entire towns on the West Coast had become poverty stricken due to the collapse of the timber industry.

There was fighting in the Middle East and in Eastern Europe.

2000 wasn't all it was cracked up to be if you were trying to survive with a family.

We will see how it goes for them

The sooner we wrap this up the better.

The longer this goes on the higher the risk of Nuclear war, so in that regards I hope they are successful
