I love how this sentiment is glibly espoused online and other modern spaces, not because it's false (it's a very nerdy middlebrow kind of technically true), but because there's still places on Earth where not having kids means you're gonna starve to death as soon as you can no longer lug rocks and dig dirt every day. Even in the West it hasn't been a century since failing to reproduce could be considered ontologically similar to killing yourself (which is also a personal choice btw). You don't even have to get into any kind of metaphysics about muh progeny or muh tribal continuity. There can still be consequences in current year, mostly a slow sort of starvation on the charity of others once you're already pretty old, but technology and functioning complexity keeps the ravening beasts at bay... for now.Its perfectly fine to be childfree, or decide to not have children. That is a personal choice.
Listening to various childfrees rationalize their positions is pointless, people can and do rationalize the most obscene behavior especially when the dissonance causes them mental anguish. You'd have to know someone damn well to even attempt to determine if their rationalizations were more than simple cover for selfishness or cowardice or whatever.
Overpopulation and similar arguments tend to be facile, after all you're essentially advocating for a mass die-off (at some point in the process collapse is inevitable and it's not just oldies that will get it) so why not be true to your convictions and off yourself immediately? Selfishness? Cowardice? What's the difference between one kind of uncontrolled die-off and another? The difference between population crash caused by humans and a meteor strike? How many kinds are there and what kind will your personal lack of children favor? It's just weak, typical of abstracted nerd logic as it relates to anything other than math equations and computer code. Notably, I've never heard people who work in the physical world (that is to say with their hands) come out with any of this stuff. Neither have I heard it outside of the wealthy and developed West. It seems to be an idiosyncrasy caused by (technological?) abstraction from reality.
Anyways it's best to be honest about it if you're gonna take some kind of position, especially a fringe one. Know thyself and all that.
Totally unrelated, I love the idea of using gloves for shit duty. If I'm gonna use disposable gloves for chemicals and other things, why not use them for diaper changes and the catbox?
