And they did have air support at the beginning. They had (for example 8 B-26s. But the air assets for the operation got shot to pieces on the first day. They way underestimated the Cuban ability to
defend the airfields. The B-26s were supposed to support the ongoing operation, but they were done. And the remaining pilots were not interested in flying more missions in.

The bay of pigs was something the Kennedy brothers believed in and even after the bay of pigs, they continued planning all sorts of operations to overthrow Castro. But as usual with the Kennedys, they found
other people to blame. And they blamed the CIA and Joint of Chiefs of Staff.
