I have to say that Germany always seems to embrace some sort of Authoritarianism. In the past it was Platz an der Sonne, Herrenrasse, Völkermord, Klassenfeind, antifaschistischer Schutzwall/Republikflucht, now it's all Buntheit, Vielfalt and Toleranz. I'm curious if we'll see the German historiography change the attitude again the way it did with the Historikerstreit and the first wave of Wehraboos during the Cold War. Back then you had to have some kind of military tradition to call back on to have a war-capable West Germany but after the Cold War they went full on on the masochism because there were no Russkies to fight. If this goes to a second Cold War it's impossible for Germany to field an army without narratively rehabilitating some strain of its militarism.
