Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

Jim's bitching about hard games. Again.
I won't shy away from the fact that, if I'm playing a game and it has an easy option I always choose it due to being the path of least resistance and I want to enjoy the game as quickly as possible. I think a lot of people do this as well.

With that said, this has been and can be detrimental to the enjoyment of the game since some of them are tailor-made to be enjoyed at a certain difficulty level. Halo games should all be played on heroic, kingdom hearts on critical is a completely different experience while Bayonetta and Devil May Crys normal modes are so well balanced that changing that setting in anyway completely changes the experience. Same can be said about Donkey Kong Country, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, lots of classic franchises. This isn't even about making it specifically kore difficult, Super Mario Sunshine has always been a black sheep of the 3D mario games and its far morr difficult than any of the others, which makes me believe thats one of the factors.

Dark Souls would never had been as big as it is if it wasn't for its difficulty and From knows thats one of its core features. Get rid of it and its mostly a really good update to Wizardry 8. I think Jimbi knows this but hes too much of a faggot to say anything against his journalist fwens.

The push for a difficulty debate concerning FromSoftware games is so pointless. No, they're not the most "accessible". Games are not an accessible hobby in the first place. Not all games are for everyone, and no one who is into From Software's shit is going to be convinced shit will change.

There should be more discussion around Elden Ring's attributes beyond that; namely how a game with serious technical issues, a bevy of reused assets in a supposedly new IP and relatively "standard" open world design got such all-time rave reviews when other games get criticised if not absolutely lambasted for a mixture of the same things. Ironically, it might be reviewers feel they'll get slandered by fans for being bad at the game when they have actually legitimate criticisms.
Marketing and hype plus actually delivering the promised product to a degree. Never doubt the power of hype and branding, people get more excited about a mediocre game from the likes of Kojima than a good game from a lesser known dev or studio. They managed to build some insane hype and live up to it, to a point, and are reaping the fruits!

Jim's fingers are too fat to push the buttons without pushing another button unintentionally.
Well, if he keeps eating like he does, the They/Them thing will be more about his size lol!

I normally don't mention Jim's views because even though they've been in consistent decline they're still north of a million per month, but I'm making this exception because this month is far and away the worst month for views Jim has had as far back as I can get records (April 2019).

The channel got a miserable 1.05M views, total, in February 2022; compared to 3.2M the same time last year and 5.7M the year before that. It really is staggering how badly Jim has tanked his own channel.

To put this in perspective, Moviebob --a channel with 132k subscribers-- managed 300k views last month. So, roughly a third of the views with a sixth of the viewerbase. How embarrassing.

After going through the last pages I'm confused. Is he a troon or non-binary? Or is it both? Can it be both? Does it depend on mood, day? Does it depend on what people say to him on twitter?

Also, I'm annoyed how easy it is for a super deathfat blob to become just a fat blob by basically doing nothing while I'm working my ass off for every single gram
IMHO the main reason he hasn't said "screw it" and gone full troon is because he's made such a name for himself as Jim and doesn't want to lose that recognition, hence the "James Stephanie" moniker and they/them pronouns. That way he can continue to make videos bitching about vidya, while throwing in some extra shit about how hard it is to be ✨kweer✨ and hang onto the members of his fanbase who've stuck around because they're woke and fully indoctrinated into this gender nonsense. (Side note: this is probably the only time I've seen an NB use this sort of naming convention - some will keep their names as is but change pronouns and don't you dare misgender them, others will pick a completely new one, usually some trendy shit like Jasper or Riley, but never before Jim have I seen somebody keeping the birth name and tacking on another one of the opposite sex).

If it weren't for the fact he's established himself doing what he does, he'd probably be calling himself a woman named Stephanie and making cookie cutter Breadtube/TRA videos about "capitalism bad" and "it's not gay if it's girldick". Though there's also the possibility that non binary gives more clout points, as even the normies have heard of people going from one sex to the other, I.E. trans classic, but NB being a recently invented thing that nobody was talking about 20 years ago gives him the power to claim he's extra oppressed and special.

jim you were born a man with a penis, wearing a wig doesnt change that
if you're doing the john money thing and conflating gender with expression, that dick of yours is 100% male. and no amount of "feminine" dresses or makeup can cover that fact.
I said he seemed like a decent bloke in 2010, but would anyone who was ever decent decline this far? Was he always a piece of shit underneath it all?

I often wonder about that with people who I thought were decent around 2010 who later drank the Woke Kool-Aid and became scumbags, Anthony Burch, another Destructoid alumni is another one, did they change or did the mask slip off, revealing what was always there buried deep below the surface?

You could say that the culture kept these people's dark sides in check and they were once decent folk, but the culture declined and they declined with it, again, it's really hard to say.

All I know is good lord do I miss the years 2007-2012 when Destructoid was at it's peak, those were fun days, ironically not the best days for gaming themselves but arguably the best days for the online culture surrounding gaming.

We all had fun but the steep decline since 2012 is mind boggling.
Jim was already a standoffish egotistical cunt in 2010. He'd already burned bridges with his family at that point. Marrying that hambeast and going down the "male feminist" to tranny pipeline gave him an excuse to be more and more of a cunt by adopting whatever label is in vogue in progressive internet circles.

Trannies like LKD or whatever soyboy he's getting fucked by from whatever polycule Dale dragged him into are his only support network now. He has no one outside of that space to tell him how ridiculous he looks wearing a dog collar in public and wrestling in combat boots and a glittery silver skirts at high school gyms in his near 40s.

It was a long time ago and I'm just not remembering well enough, I mean I was never a genuine fan of Jim's like I was of Burch, he just seemed like a decent enough critic who was worth reading, but I do remember him doing stuff like mocking Doug TenNapel or the Left Behind video game for being "anti-gay", it's funny how people who really liked to bash Fundies wound up drinking the Kool-Aid of a cult like ideology themselves.

Imagine any of these dorks trying the old Konami arcade games that didn't even have unlimited continues with quarters like Haunted Castle or god forbid Gradius III.

I'd expect a 20 minute rant about the evils of capitalism in 80s arcade games if Jumbo and his ilk learned of this because all the kids were wasting their hard earned quarters on cabinets or something (if such a thing doesn't exist yet).

I still go back to the NES version of Star Wars and Super Mario Bros 3 and think to myself "how the bloody hell did I complete these when you can't even save your game???" (obviously you can with the emulator but not the real hardware).

I am OK with many games having an easy mode but I'm not going to play on easy. Games that are too easy are going to bore me quickly and games that are insanely difficult are also likely to get left or refunded in frustration. It's still fine, though - those games will have people who like them and I'm not going to whine that every single game should be made specifically for me.

I rarely like PvP games, for instance. When I see a new PvP only game has come out I don't freak out and demand they change it. I'll just not buy it. I have been disappointed with some games not making PvP optional, when the majority of the content is PvE (like Sea of Thieves) but that's when I weigh up the good and the bad aspects and decide if I can still play and have fun while trying to avoid the PvP aspects. Yes, I think these games could appeal to a wider audience and sell more copies if they add easier modes (like Sea of Thieves allowing private servers) but that's really the choice of the company making the game and guess what, Jim? That's capitalism.

It's ironic, but I'll be damned if you couldn't easily interpret it as being completely sincere
People who take that video sincerely are the type of people who'd also take this sincerely.

Should some games have an easy mode? Yes.
Should all games have an easy mode? No.
Imagine "Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy" having an easy mode. The entire point is the difficulty and frustration.

Am I a great gamer? Certainly not these days - I'm an old fart and my reactions aren't close to what they were. Does that mean I want an easy mode in every game? No - some games simply aren't for me and that's fine. You can't make every single game appeal to every player.

If you add an easy mode to every game, then should you also add a hardcore mode to every game? If so, add ironman hardcore permadeath to Barbie's Super Funhouse.
As much as I'm not really into the Souls-style stuff (Prefer janky From Soft or their older mecha stuff), I'm glad they're not really kowtowing to the easy mode fags. I absolutely hate people that are like "I'd love this game if it was _____ and _____ and _____. And basically a different game entirely."

Nothing really to complain about what he says, its a reasonable enough review of the game but watching the gameplay explains why he did a video about the community because he is undoubtably having people tell him to git gud over his poor gameplay.

The difference is that (at least so far as I know), nobody in oingo Boingo is a convicted child molester.

I'm still keeping my eye on Danny Elfman. Just look at him:

There’s a video game channel I follow on YouTube where they’re doing streams where the SoulsBorne fan is teaching a newbie how to play, which makes great and engaging content.

Jim’ll NEVER do anything like that because Jim is an idiot. I’m no SoulsBorne expert but I love playing these games and Roguelikes to experience the “Tough but fair” gameplay so few developers get right.

The thing people who cry out for an “Easy” mode don’t understand is the same thing the “OMG why does everyone who likes Guitar Hero/Rock Band wanna play metal songs?” people don’t get: IT’S THE FEELING OF ACCOMPLISHMENT!

Yes, no one’s gonna give my friends and I a medal for finishing Painkiller on Expert with no notes missed but I’m gonna ride high on that feeling for a while and that’s all the reward I need.
