These guys, I dunno who they are, are reporting the SAR Puma helicopter sent to look for the Romanian MiG pilot is missing too.

Guys, I don't feel so good.
ALIENBROS ITS HAPPENING

Plot twist, we all die in a nuclear fire because a Romanian pilot tried to steal a Russian frigate.
Plot twist, WW3 starts because a Romanian pilot tried to sell his MiG-21 to both the Russians and Ukrainians at a "great deal for you bros" (actually a 3000% markup, gypsies gonna gyp)

There's obviously a lot of stuff to steal and his rescuer is helping him liberate it.

The difference between this and the far more efficient and successful invasion of Iraq by America is the general willingness to incur mass civilian casualties. It’s actually pretty difficult to take a city relatively intact when you’re dealing with motivated well armed defenders.

I don’t know what Russia’s initial plan was, and I don’t know how it feels about it’s progress, but it’s clear that Russia needs to switch something up. I don’t believe most of the triumphalist propaganda coming out of Ukraine, but I also don’t believe the Russian propaganda which is painting the invasion as a rosy success.

I don’t think you’re right about Kiev being the only thing Russia needs to occupy. Ukraine is vast, it has several major cities, and the Ukrainian military could more easily defend western Ukraine than the pincered east. Ukraine is digging in for a long fight, one that it will inevitably lose and which could cost hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians their lives. The west clearly wants to use this to isolate and crush Russia, and it will buoy up Ukrainian resistance as much as it possibly can, even if every inch of Ukraine comes under Russian control.
I can generally get behind your point about civilian casualties, and it looks like in the past 24 hours Russia has begun to swing on that. I expect we'll see them get a pasting over the weekend.
I don't really buy your argument about the cities, though. I agree that Kiev isn't the only place Russia needs to occupy but it is the most prominent failure. I think you argument would hold more water if they had captured _any_ of the big cities. I could forgive slow progress on some, but it's a week in and - unless something has changed in the past hour - they haven't taken any of the major cities. Kharkov, 20mi from the border hasn't gone, nor has Mariupol.

Why risk more casualties bum rushing a city when you can encircle it and wait. Not like the russians don't have air superiority

Start thinking about your final shitposts you want to make when the missiles start flying. There's a chance the hard drive survives so we can only leave our best for the future historians or aliens to find. Dibs on:

It blows my mind that a country would still even be flying one that fucking old.
I mean they did produce them until 85, the Chinese even longer, they only stopped making em like 15 years ago. They've also extensively modified them, but still, airframe fatigue is real. The Romanians aren't even the only ones flying them, a surprising amount remain in service worldwide.

The Russian's don't want an urban battle especially in a huge city for some vary obvious reasons.

1. It maximizes the Ukrainian advantage in that armed civilians will if nothing else likely mean numerical superiority. This is less then ideal for an attacking force

2. Civilian casualties in the thousands are highly likely

3. It minimizes Russia's massive advantage in firepower, Air Support in particular is difficult to use in large urban environments

4. Even leveled cities often improve the terrain for the defender, see Stalingrad, Beirut, Grozny, Hue, Monte Cassino
