Most of these volunteers can't run to their mailbox and back to their PC without gasping for breath, let alone with 30+ lbs of combat gear. Instead of pink Poverty Pony ARs and wish.com tacticool gear, people serious about volunteering as a mercenary should invest in a fitness regimen.

Then again, that would be fat phobic and fascist
If the Ukranians are smart they've got some kind of narrow hallway to negotiate to even get to the processing area for combat roles. Anyone that doesn't fit/complains is given the honor of the "Foritifications" unit. I.E. Give them sandbags to fill and have them carried to places that need them. Shoveling and carrying heavy shit is a great fitness regimen. Cripples/tards/the weak that cannot manage that can make sandbags. Who knows? If a fat neckbeard buckles down and really applies himself he might just get promoted to carry something more valuable than that.

You only need a small cadre of tard wranglers from the regular forces to manage them. They will need the patience of saints and/or command willing to look the other way. Allowing them as much vodka as they want is going to be required if you want morale to last.
Edit for potential unit name: Spedsnaz

Edit to keep thread clean:
Im actually a bit surprised yall are mocking this. There have been motherfuckers looking for a reason or a way to die that isnt "rope on the rafter in moms basement" forever.

And to be honest you could probably frame it as the best 'vacation' theyll ever have.
Slight PL but good luck doing anything with it and enjoy watch lists: I went to high school with a kid with an attitude like that. Do you know what he did? He buckled down on his French studies to a level of fluency, got into fitness, and actually went over to France and enlisted in the FFL. While it isn't 100% clear where exactly he's ended up now, within about 18 months a whole bunch of feds and suits are interviewing anyone that tangentially knows the kid at all for a security clearance. Shortly thereafter it was like the dude fell off the face of the planet. Now that is badass.

Impulsively deciding to engage in what is effectively mercenary work from a developed and uninvolved country is narcissism of the highest level. I doubt they could make it through MEPs at all and I would be very interested in knowing their ASVAB scores. There's plenty of programs doing meaningful work they could decide to give their life to. While I don't agree with doing it for religion, I can respect the devotion to faith. Cold war 2.0 sponsored by the new superpowers, same as the old superpowers, is pretty fucking gay.

So who are the tankies siding with?

Here are some archives.
Discussion of the guy with a day of EMT training. https://archive.ph/pjecv

20 year olds Swede is considering volunteering and asking if it’s illegal. At least he’s in Europe. https://archive.ph/gFc2B
I’m an Israeli American and I know dual citizens who are IDF officers
The Law says you can lose citizenship for that, policy is different. Especially for US allies like Israel(and Ukraine hopefully).
Below is a reasonable post for once, I’m surprised it didn’t catch as much flak.
This reminds of a doc called They Shall Not Grow Old about World War One. There's an entire segment about how young kids would volunteer high on patriotism just to find out war isn't like any cool stories.
Of course, it's not the same. Here it's Ukraine defending itself from an invasion, but I've always thought that it was a very poignant documentary.
If I weren't an 18 senior in highschool, I'd buy an SKS and grab my surplus M59 helmet and join the fight
But I'm not the best for that, unfortunately. But if the war lasts long enough (what a dreadful thought) then maybe I could
Pessimist, if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all
r/Ukraine questioning the efficacy of Reddit volunteers. Some don’t take so kindly to the reasonable concerns.
nooo, silly westerners, don't help Ukraine, stay home, they will handle it on their own"
"i am a foreigner too" - north-eastern one, I assume?
There have been western volunteers here for years. There are more than you think. Volunteers can get citizenship. Ukraine is a cheap country to live in, Kyiv is great, plenty of pretty girls, etc.
I suspect the one above is a recruiter lol.
So Americans landing on Normandy were a huge liability to France?
Idk about that, I have experience in paramilitary, krav maga training and I consider myself fit. I also consider joining in case of escalation.
If someone is willing to give up there safe and easy life in Europe or the US for a possible one way trip to a war that will be the biggest one in europe scince WW2 i would take them even if they don't speak the language or have experiance...
You can place them in a defensive position and order them to hold at all cost...
Ukraine wil need every man, woman that can hold a gun if they are to resist a full scale Russian invasion.
Don't expect the regular Ukrainian army to survive for more then a month if Russia uses all the tools at its disposal. So manpower will be factor for Ukraine and partisan/Guerrilla warfare can be there biggest strenght.
I liked this exchange:
The ignorance of people here blows my mind.
The issue with civilian volunteer fighters isn’t their competence in war fighting or willingness to fight.
The issue is the enemy response to said civilian fighters. When already highly stressed and emotionally charged soldiers can’t distinguish who is an enemy combatant and who isn’t… it can quickly escalate and you get events like My Lai massacre.
If you want to fight the Russians, join the military, distinguish yourself from innocent civilians. Because it’a the innocent Ukrainians who will pay the price for your stupid little adventure to the frontline
Such arrogance. With attitudes like this, I’m not surprised people are reluctant to help Ukraine.

The fuck do I have to be patriotic towards America? Our lack of Healthcare? Our previous president who was a agent of putin, among other horrible things? The fact we have been needlessly killing people in the middle east for decades? Our schools suck, our government sucks, we have the highest incarceration rate of any other developed nation, some of the highest income inequality in the world, our politicians are bought and paid for and haven't truly represented us in decades, our corporations are literally killing the planet. Should I go on? Cause I've only scratched the surface of why America is a fucking disgrace.
Fucking KLOWNS protesting in Canada. Even we don't feel the same about our maple leaf since they started flying it upside down. Disgraceful
"Who else but us."
Legit as fk, these people know they are fighting a monster, that the odds are uncounted, and they still plan to go nose to nose and win. Never have I seen such grim determination. Every night the fighting is horrendous, every single night is a war for the dawn.
Slava Ukraine!
Watching America for the past two years, where people refuse to wear masks to protect their own people - I think there are very few people with a courage to fight, nowadays people are too comfortable in livelihoods and accomodations. I personally think this courage mostly exist in your movies. Ukranians were always ready for something like this war. It's not a news for them. They were born ready.
Unfortunately you’re right, people in the US are way to comfortable in their daily lives to want to give that up. They have gotten soft. Personally I live in the US and know a lot of people who would rather hide under a rock than to fight.
The Ukrainians literally just got done with a war in their own country with their own people about 8 years ago. They experienced things you can’t come back from, but it made their country unite even stronger. That is why they’re able to come together the way they’re now to fight.
But they would all defend their personal property to the death. And most of them are armed to the teeth.
I suspect many Americans wouldn’t bother fighting for anyone but themselves. See: the last two years during COVID.
I would fight. Don't underestimate the unifying and motivating effect defending your homeland has.
I am an American and I would fight to my last breath.
As an American we always bicker and we always fight and at the end of the day we stand for whats right in the face of bigots, our own people and so on. We make our own choices and thats really what stands us apart.
The right side of history always wins
At the end of the day average citizens want peace and prosperity. Did we go to war in vietnam and korea for misguided reasons yes. Now Korea is a force to be reckoned with and vietnam is recovering. As a viet myself Ive learned to forgive but never forget.
What happened in Iraq and Afghanistan was not the job of American did it happen? Yes because old men who don’t understand the world fight with greed. Many of us want change but change is hard when you fight everything going against you.
The best we can do is ignore our government and go where were needed
One issue is unless you have training it is next to impossible to hot anything past 20yards with a handgun. Where as anybody can pick up a rifle and be deadly
CRINGE LEVEL 90000000000000
I remember when they first started and people were like "wow cool" and I was cringing out of my chair lol
Anyways, I'm glad they're helping Ukraine, they need it.. omg they're so nerdy!!!! but still, great job guys!
I’m getting flashbacks to the early 2000s. It also serves as evidence that it was not just neocons braying for Muslim blood like many would like to think.

Hopefully people continue to get worked up into a froth and 5 or 6 of these redditors go die in a warzone, it would prevent them from instigating their inevitable uni shootings or CP arrests later. Sadly, it's probably going to end up like r/antiwork and this painful exposure causes everyone to clam up and have sad & quiet self-reflection with no body count or public laughs.
