I do think that you need more than the visuals to really relive it. You need the sound, the smell, the inhuman living conditions, the whole package. The imagination can go a long way, but it'll be an imperfect picture. After all, if you stop being able to stand it, you can make it all go away with one click.
If you're really there you've got to find some other way to deal with it.
It's rather cliché to say our generation is soft and weak, but it's hard to believe otherwise when it's trumpeted so much that others have to change for you instead of sucking it up and accepting that a lot of the time the world sucks and you have to be stronger for it. Lately I feel like people aren't encouraged to face their fears and grow accustomed to them and overcome them no matter how ugly they are. It's a lust for safety that totalitarians and tyrants love to encourage so that they can seize power under the guise of just protecting the poor little minds of the people who just want their bread and circuses at the end of the day.
Frankly I'm not afraid of people seeing things and being traumatized. I'm afraid that nobody will see and they'll remain ignorant of even a smidgen of the reality of all of this.

I've stopped watching the videos and opening pictures with gore spoilers. The sheer volume is beginning to take its toll on my psyche. My guess is that for a lot of Russians a Russia without Ukraine or the other Ex-Russian-Empire/Ex-Soviet States isn't a real Russia. Imagine if Taiwan wasn't an Island but instead directly attached to mainland China, because if that was the case China would've also been way more aggressive towards it.
