Russia has established a FOB off the west side of Kiev that is close enough for their artillery and rockets to pound Kiev (but far enough away that the more limited range Ukrainian equipment can't return fire). They continue to pound the city with artillery to "motivate" capitulation and/or soften up defenses for the actual push into the city.

Russians have also secured a key airfield near Kiev and are using it to airlift in fresher troops and supplies (strategically important because the troops won't be road march weary, and reduces the length of supply chain lines that need to be actively defended and maintained to the FOB).

Other strategic cities are undergoing the same treatment.

Ukrainian forces have shown some limited skirmish victories against Russian supply chain elements, but it appears to be sporadic and mostly against supply trucks with at most a single BMP screen escort.

Russians have also appeared to have taken the gloves off in terms of air support assets, and are ramping up the number of air bombings being conducted.

Overall, Russia is in phase 2 of the battle plan, which is shell/bomb the shit out of the strategic targets, until either surrender, or the targets are weak enough to begin phase 3: begin spearhead into the city.

They might but a few things, Taiwan is a literal fortress, even without western help. China's army falls more into paper tiger territory than any actual army that can project strength, the last war China fought in was against Vietnam, and the VC fucked in the mountains, then just recently they had a skirmish against India (also in the mountains) and the Poos shit all over them.

This is a point worth remembering - historically, an army that hasn't fought in a very long time has proven in the field to be, well, bad at fighting. It's so much more than the quality of your hardware and the physical conditioning of your troops. It's like going into a football game when your team has never actually played a single down where tackling was allowed, times a million.

All we really know in China v Taiwan is that neither side has a battle-tested military, and in situations like that, the only really predictable thing is that everything's going to go absolutely sideways once things actually pop off.

That's not true, china has military experience. They beat like two dozen Pajeet soldiers to death with clubs a year or so ago. I'm sure the experience translates.
