Telegram puts out an open sourced version of the client as well and there should be no geolocation censorship.

Otherwise, if you are on Android: Just enable the debug menu, enable gps simulation/debugging and download an app to put your location in Russia...
or wherever the channel you are trying to see is most unlikely to be banned.

If Telegram finds your location through IP space, then you can circumvent with a VPN, but I still think just getting the uncensored version would be best.
(Maybe they even put the location info in the app depending on the region where you download it even, idk what kind of shit they pull there)

Every single time I've visited I've always had one young person ask me how to get hooked up with a VPN; you cannot get one in country and have to rely on others, usually foreigners, to hook them up.

If you can I'd suggest you instead offer them a relay to a VPN or a TOR bridge. Directly accessing a VPN from behind the Great Firewall almost certainly gets you put on a list. It may do that even here in these Eyes countries, but unlike here, the commies aren't even sneaky about it.

I've not once used a VPN on a private WiFi in China, because it isn't worth having the person I'm staying with get hassled by the cops why a VPN was active in the house while a foreigner was there.
