He's literally incorrect about this. The USA and other signatories promised to advance Ukrainian security issues to the security council, not 'protect it forever.' And Russia was also a signatory.

The reason why Ukraine gave up their nukes is because they were going to be put on a non-proliferation sanction regime by literally the entire world if they didn't.

Negligible external trade. I brought it up before but India's total exports are less than Belgium's. And far less in the distant past. Non-proliferation actions are primarily sanctions regimes (which is why Iran got their monies targeted instead of being attacked) but if your country is an economic basketcase, then there's not much the international order can do to you.
