I am eternally baffled that people post shit from Reddit and Twitter, and seem to think that it's a legitimate vertical slice of popular opinion - and then base their opinions on being the opposite of that.

I have never met a single person IRL who uses Twitter, and like three people who casually view Reddit in my entire life; and I've never met anyone that talks on an online forum every day.

Its a false comparison to compare this to the Cuban Missile Crisis. The US and NATO does not stage nuclear weapons in the Baltics or even in the Pacific which would have inched nuclear weapons closer to Russian territory and hasn't stated they intended to position nuclear weapons in Ukraine. That narrative has been repeated as a caucus belli over and over but is a weak excuse based on what ifs. Ground based ballistic missiles or air delivered nuclear weapons aren't even needed in an age with SSBNs. NATO could have just put nuclear weapons in Poland if they really wanted that reach.

Putin's concern is less to do with nukes being stationed in/near Ukraine. It's moreso about deployment of ballistic missile defense installations that would neuter his own strike capabilities (retaliatory or otherwise).

3. Biden's choice is either:

Live up to America's treaty obligations resulting in $200 Oil and lose another war and lose the midterms OR

Fuck the treaties and cut off oil exports and not fight another war and have the cheapest food and gas prices in the world and possibly win some seats. I suspect, many Big Tech companies will banned globally in retaliation if you are looking for a silver lining.

It's going to be an interesting choice.

4. I cheated - a famine is guaranteed. 2 of the largest grain producers are at war so there's going to be a famine. Russia and Ukraine produce over half of the world potash so there's going to be a famine. The Chinese are hogging all the phosphates so there's going to be a famine. Nitrates comes from natural gas - you get the idea. The last time there was a harvest this bad was 2011 which set off the Arab Spring. This disruption is much larger. Africa and Asia will starve.
