I gave up on it after season 12. The season finale being held over Zoom because of COVID was really weird and off-putting. Jaida Essence Hall, the winner of that season, identifies as "queer", and one of the runner-ups, Gigi Goode, is now "transgender and non-binary". How the fuck that's possible, I do not know. Then, I remember season 13 having a TIF contestant make it to the finals. It's just gone downhill way too much. My favorites were just seasons 2-6.RPDR has sucked ever since it started attracting primarily young contestants who think that looking really hot and fashionable is the most important thing about being in drag. There have been some sane trans contestants in the past who were clear professionals and staples in the scene, but I doubt that the new hsts bitches have half the longevity or adaptability of someone like Peppermint.
The thing is that someone like Peppermint can seperate their work from their personal lives, while a lot of the ones who become trans through drag have essentially become the mask and can no longer seperate themselves from their working persona. The most well adjusted and normal drag queens are the ones who have a firm line between their drag identity and their real identity. It must be pretty exhausting to be one of these HSTS drag queens and having to be 'on' all the time because there is no seperation between yourself and the persona you have constructed, no wonder so many of the trans contestants end up having weird meltdowns and embarassing themselves online.
