Confirmation of the Polish MIG-29 jets.

No surprise. Good way to get rid of the MiGs and their associated parts/tools/ground equipment, get some good used F-16s from storage in Arizona. Bet the F-16s are being made ready to go as we speak.

One possible way for the Poles to send the MiGs to Ukraine - fly them to airport closest to border, then use trucks to take them over the border. We did this before WWII.

This is one of the most dangerous situations you could think of, first and foremost, where are the planes going to operate? Russia controls most of the airfields and has something close to Air Supremacy in Ukraine, the few airfields they don't control lack the facilities to properly maintain and run air operations. So ok, do we move them by train or are we going to have the Ukranian pilots fly them over the border? Then what? Russia controls the air, so now we have to arm them so they don't get shot out of the sky immediately, thus you have begun air operations from a Polish base against Russian air assets. So the Ukranian planes fly to the border and find a host of pissed off Russians there... what do they do? Go back and run another operation, with armed air frames? Or are they flying a suicide mission into the swarm? The whole thing is seriously caviler about the risks inherit in such an act.

Nobody is sure how or where the jets will be used. Even if they got into Ukraine, it doesn't seem like they would last long.
I tend to think that they will never end up there at all. That this is all just a Polish scheme to get upgraded to F-16s for free. That Poland has no role in the transfer makes it seem to me even more likely that none of the jets will ever actually be sent into Ukraine.

I tend to think that they will never end up there at all. That this is all just a Polish scheme to get upgraded to F-16s for free. That Poland has no role in the transfer makes it seem to me even more likely that none of the jets will ever actually be sent into Ukraine.

Wondering about that as well. Unless you transport those jets on trucks to somewhere in Ukraine where they can launch, this isn't just a weapons delivery...
Just checked the range. With tanks they could just make the trip from Ramstein to Kiew, so they will probably not launch from Germany.
