This is literally just a war of attrition. Who will cave first? Zelensky and the west by accepting Putin’s ultimatums due to increasing Ukrainian casualties? Or Putin and the Russian oligarchs due to economic damage caused by sanctions?

And Russia can still get stuff from Chyna. Which in todays world is basically everything.
So they may not be able to get Apple cell phones and Adidis but they can get plenty of andriod phones and Adibis.

Things where harder in the USSR days because everything was made in the USA. So they just didnt have access to alot of things with out tons of work building it themselves.
Today I can't really think of anything they can't easily get from China. They are just cut off from American BRANDS.

Shell first promised to exit all its joint ventures in Russia. Then after it got caught buying some Russian oil on the sport market, it promised to stop buying any Russian oil.
The exit of the joint ventures is financially very painful. They are having to write off multiple billions of dollars in assets. And if they ever want to go back into Russia in the future, everything has to be re-negotiated from square one. BP and Shell's future as companies is also directly impacted by the loss of their Russian assets. The future of oil companies is always determined by the oil assets they have access to in the future. Both BP and Shell post-war will have a whole lot less of them.

The spot market stuff is more of a sad joke. What Shell has committed to do is not to directly buy Russian oil on the spot market that it knows is Russian. But there is nothing to prevent russian oil being sold by third parties on the spot market to shell without shell knowing.

SHELL got a $28 dollar discount. Oil at 130 means they are still getting $102 a barrel.

What Putin really has to watch out for is Xi or the rest of the OPEC+ nations snaking him. The way things are going for Brandon I am starting to think this whole operation is BRICS+OPEC nations working to knock the USA/EU down a few pegs.
