I feel like this is satire but I know the sentiment isn’t, and it’s hilarious how you could say to one of these people, “How do you feel about European missionaries during colonisation forcing natives to convert to Christianity in order to receive food, water, medical treatment, education, and other assistance?” and they’d lose their shit and not for a second see that it’s the exact same thing.

Passive voice in general is bad and intended to conceal the subject of the sentence. This is why it's bad in mainstream writing, but where every word on a sign should efficiently carry information, wording like this instead wastes it. What's funny is I bet they did it to avoid being offensive. Had they just gone and said "Slaves grew this particular kind of cotton here" they'd probably be complaining about that too.
You know why none of these disasters have ever been "true communism?" For the same reason there has never been a "true perpetual motion machine." Except fake perpetual motion machines don't murder millions of people.
