In that case I stand by what I said, Putin needs to take the whole country, no satellite state bullshit, no regime change bullshit, the only way to justify this is by making material gains in the form of taking land for Russia. It would be even more worthwhile if he could take a few more East European countries while he's at it, but that's clearly not feasible.
If he squashes the Ukrainian government then he could pull it off.
You may be of the assumption that I'm in support of Ukraine but the truth is that I support both sides in a way, I appreciate the desire to defend one's own land and on the other hand I appreciate the desire to annex a weaker nation for its resources. I sympathize with the civilians of both nations more than either government, and I'm more interested in what the invader seeks to gain & their ability to get it than the mere morality of who invaded who first. I see a lot to be lost & little to be gained.
I would say Putin should've made preparations to jump off the SWIFT system ahead of time & probably scoop up a shitload of Crypto & prepare to use it as their new system but I'm curious how practical it could be. I'm struggling to see how this could've been the best case scenario or what he could've done to make their newfound hermit state less painful a transition for his own people. My only answers are "Crypto", "Get gold & silver shekels" & "Make your own SWIFT."
Weaponizing SWIFT had exactly one effect, losing credibility for SWIFT & all the shit attached to it, & giving credibility to decentralized financial vectors that any given government can't personally meddle in whenever they feel like fucking with a civilian or whole country. Kicking Russia off of SWIFT was both an act of weakness and a show of strength, feeble strength if you will. It's like a parent who wants to smack their kid across their face but can't so they put them in time out instead.
But at the end of the day, Putin and his cabinet made this decision, they placed their bets on whatever it is they intend to get out of it & it fucked them all financially. They're the East-Europe version of North Korea either way. Putin is in an unenviable position.
