That is very true. Its worth remembering that when Wilson brought what he had done back to the United States, it was rejected by the senate and really the country at large. Much of what he did in terms of post-war diplomacy was done in isolation in Europe where only fawning approved persons and journalists could cover it. He also did constantly lie and misrepresent his policies.
And he would very much be a neocon. The whole neocon idea of America saving the world was his belief too.

The reason the US cannot commit war crimes is that the US has refused to put itself under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court nor has it ratified the Rome Statute treaty. The only body that could bring war crimes charges against the United States would be the courts of the united states. And a combination of (a) refusal to bring prosecutions, (b) limitations on the jurisdiction of the federal courts and (c) lack of standing for parties to bring action in federal court....mean that effectively there is no way to hold anyone in the United States accountable for any real or not real war crimes.

Honestly, China likely could do an invasion of Taiwan without there being a lot of forewarning. There's not a lot stopping them from using civilian ships for marine landings, Taiwan has some excellent locations for airborne landings, and China has enough airpower to very rapidly overwhelm anything that could put up a real fight on the ground. That's not saying they'll go this route, but it's certainly something within the realm of possibility.

Lol, you’d see a buildup of Chinese air power and infantry a month away. The amphibious invasion of Taiwan will be the largest amphibious assault since the Normandy landings - and very well could wind up being a larger operation.

I desperately hope the Chinese would be as retarded as to try and cross the treacherous strait in commercial craft to make landings, because that would be even more hilarious a military operation than what they’re likely going to do: trying to inundate Taiwanese air defenses with stand off weapons and then send in their amphibious assault ships and cross their fingers they can hold a beachhead.

In the case of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, you could look at the US island-hopping expeditions in World War 2. Even after days of sustained bombardment, the US lost thousands of men during amphibious landings against a foe they outnumbered and outsupplied handily when they tried to land.

A critical missing piece in what @Protistology said (can't quote) is the involvement of the Wilson administration. Wilson was committed to WW1 and "making Europe safe for democracy," and his absolute brainlet idea with the battered, bleeding Russia that had just deposed the Tsar due to the war's unpopularity was to make continued involvement in the war a condition of receiving loans from the USA. So Kerensky was faced with either immediately going bankrupt and having another revolution, or keep the war going and maybe not have another revolution, but anyway, there was another revolution.
