Remember Dieppe. The Chinese have ZERO combined-arms operational experience more recent than 1979. This is something that takes a great deal of practice. China doesn't do it. They're still trying to figure out how to effectively use their carrier. Would expect Taiwanese/US submarines to feast on Chinese ships.
Well the problem there is that Taiwan has 8 under construction, but it's current fleet consists of 2 diesel electric subs a few decades old, and a pair of ww2 vintage ones.

This would have been true 20 years ago, but Taiwan has rapidly become a westernized country with a population that doesn’t view itself as Chinese anymore.

The military is full of Chinese nationalist KMT guys, but the general population and civilian government are extremely anti China and anti unification.

Taiwan is in an incredibly strong strategic position, China would lose hundreds of ships and tens of thousands of troops before even landing, its air force would be shot to pieces, and even after they’d landed they’d have to fight an uphill battle against well fortified positions. Taiwan has billions of dollars of US weaponry, and a ton of state of the art anti air missiles.

Invading Taiwan would be a nightmare. I genuinely doubt that China could succeed.

I agree and the urban fighting would be hell for the Chinese as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if the lost 10,000 KIA in the landings or in a week of urban combat.

The Chinese will be like the French in the early months of WW1 because they would know fuck all how to operate in modern warfare, specially in amphibious operations.

Sure, the products quality might be as shit as China's but at least they won't have to rely on foreign companies that much.

/schizo theory
Do any of the foreign companies even have factories in russia? I remember mcdicks had to get one going in the soviet days because of import restrictions but did they keep that going after 1991 or just imported everything? because seems all these companies did was just import shit, their only assets are stores and offices to sell that shit

As for chinese quality they are getting their shit together, flagship chinese phones are as good if not better than a galaxy for almost half the price, not cheap-ass like before but still a better deal than the koreans. Also we get some chinese cars over here and the quality has also gone up a lot these years, from total shitbox deathtraps to almost euro-quality. Tho tbh euro cars have gone to shit lately, for example peugeot was known to make cars that were practically indestructible, but now they make the most disposable shit I've seen in my life, and the electronics are limey-tier

Back to my point, just how many assets did these companies have in russia?
Have you seen Moscow? It looks (or looked, I haven't been to the center recently) like an occupied city. The streets of central Moscow don't belong to Russians. Its core is fucking rotten, it's unlivable and hostile.
Go on, sounds interesting
From what I saw it was a bunch of "oh our satellites show Russians moving blood to the front. They'll attack within a week". And similar things. People were getting tired of all the imminent attack warnings. They got it wrong more than they got it right.
Said it before and I'll say it again: had I been a ukie living in ukraine I would've run the moment the russians had troops in the bielorrusian frontier

Worse case scenario I lose my job for not going to work for weeks, but that beats being cheeki-breekied by a russkie cruise missile or being forcibly conscripted as one of zelensky's suicide battyboys
Russians are paying upwards of $400 in Rubles for McDonalds.

This is even more retarded than palestinians paying for smuggled KFC from egypt
Re: The Russian Revolution

A critical missing piece in what @Protistology said (can't quote) is the involvement of the Wilson administration. Wilson was committed to WW1 and "making Europe safe for democracy," and his absolute brainlet idea with the battered, bleeding Russia that had just deposed the Tsar due to the war's unpopularity was to make continued involvement in the war a condition of receiving loans from the USA. So Kerensky was faced with either immediately going bankrupt and having another revolution, or keep the war going and maybe not have another revolution, but anyway, there was another revolution.

Wilson is arguably the worst President in US history.
I think he was a top-tier troll: create the league of nations but refuse to join it, talk about democracy and anti-imperialism but say "I am going to teach the South American republics to elect good men." and turn nicaragua into a defacto colony, then sending troops all over the caribbean and half-invading mexico. Muh rights and freedom but he hangs around with the KKK, even letting them parade thru DC, say blacks are inferior because science. Opposes women vote then does a 180 and allows it

Head of Ukraine's anti-corruption agency addressed a letter to Shoigu thanking him for embezzling from the Russian Army... does he get paid to shitpost on the job? Or is the job a shitpost of its own?

In that case, hope the USN would be in there, too.

Just don't see an invasion of Taiwan happening. Would be vastly easier for China to take Quemoy and Matsu instead. Not much Taiwan could do about it.

As a side note, why do I keep believing this war is going to be a grind? Surely Zelensky has plans to use Lviv as the new capital should Kyiv fall. Am I wrong? If so, how? Just my gut feeling, the more things I see here.

the japanese were infamous for their fighting spirit, their fierce resistance, and their willingness to fight to the death no matter the odds.
i don't think the chinese in taiwan share that resolve. people meme about ukrainians and russians being the same because all slavs look alike to americans, but in the case of taiwan and mainland china it's actually true, like 90%+ of the taiwanese population is han chinese, the rest are random foreigners and a small remnant of indiginous taiwanese who are thoroughly marginalized and irrelevant.

tl;dr i would not confidently expect the taiwanese to put up a super hard fight against a potential PRC invasion.
The primary han population of Taiwan got started in the early 1600s and today maintain their own separate identity and language (hokkien). They're quite distinct from mainlanders and this is doubly so because they spent the entire first half of the 20th century under Japanese occupation.

The KMT were constantly at odds with the island Chinese over diverging ethnic identities.

He has to get to Lviv first, which may or may not happen.

In hindsight I think not getting the government out of Kyiv is going to turn out to be the decision that bites them in the ass. AFAIK the entire executive branch is just chilling there. So who knows what happens if Russia just kills them all.

the government abandoning the capital would probably collapse whatever is left of their army's morale, that's probably why they're holding out

Tbf the e-thot was actually pregnant so she could have gone to the maternity ward for legitimate reasons, and then Western journos found the prettiest woman to photograph for their emotional blackmail story, who of course would be the e thot. It all hinges on whether that story about Azov/soldiers commandeering the building was true or not.

impossible to find out really
according to russia every building ever hit by a russian shell or rocket was an azov base where they were storing weapons and canisters of zyklon-b, while according to ukraine all these buildings were schools, hospitals, cancer wards and orphanages

The radical centrist view is that they were orphanages full of armed cancer patients convinced of national socialism.
