A South Florida elementary schoolteacher from Pines Lakes Elementary had to be hospitalized after a 5-year-old student in her classroom attacked her last week. She had to be intubated and will need surgery.

According to Fox13, two students in the classroom, ages 4 and 5, began throwing [A] objects at the teachers and flipping the chairs.

The injured teacher, Trisha Meadows, brought the 5-year-old into another room after several faculty members split up the students. President of the Broward Teachers Union, Ana Fusco, stated that at that moment the 5-year-old unnamed student then attacked Meadows.

“He actually ran and attacked and jumped on her with his whole body weight,” Fusco said. “She fell and hit her head, which caused the severe injury and other bodily injuries where she is going to need surgery.”

The publication reports that school faculty members could hear Meadows on her school radio, requesting help. When an officer finally arrived to aid assistance, they found her sitting on the ground against the wall, appearing to be in a “faint state.”

Despite Meadows blinking and breathing, the officer stated that she was otherwise “unresponsive,” stating that she was unable to “verbally respond or show any signs of a response.”

Meadows was rushed to a nearby hospital but has been released and is recovering at home. She has not yet undergone surgery for her injuries.

It wouldn’t be the first time the student has violently attacked their teacher. Fusco revealed Meadows had been hospitalized three separate times after violent outbreaks by the student, including an incident where the student threw a bookcase on the teacher, leaving her pinned underneath it.

“She has been hospitalized several times by this student. It’s not this first time, not the second time; it’s the third time,” Fusco said. “The district has failed. They need to get in there and when the teachers are saying, ‘I’ve got this happening,’ whether it’s one time. It should never get past one time when it’s that severe of rage and violence.”

One parent, who did not want to be identified, shared with the news outlet that her child is in the same class, a special needs classroom. The 5-year-old has also been known to strike other students, causing black eyes and other injuries.

“You continuously get this from one student, one, two students; it’s an issue,” the parent said. “This is not the first time that this has happened at this school, in this classroom. I feel like there needs to be the proper support. This is a special needs [A] class; however, they’re not equipped to deal with things like this.”

The Broward County School Board told [A] WSVN that all district protocols were followed. The Broward Teachers Union says Meadows is unlikely to return to the school.

Due to the boy’s age, charges against him are not likely.

Y'know, I get it. He's just a kid, and being special needs he likely just doesn't have the ability to control his strength/emotions. There's no way he really understands what he's done here, and no one should really expect a 5-year-old to have that amount of introspection.

But where this has happened before with this same kid, towards other students even, I think there comes a time where more "intervention" is required. Parents may not being doing enough at home, or maybe just not going about it right, but they do need to be looked in to. Kid seems to be beyond the help of just a basic special ed class, and seems like he just needs to have individual classes with someone trained to handle tard rage safely.

It's a shame though. You know this lady isn't and will never be paid enough to deal with this shit, and she's likely just fucked for life now because the higher-ups of the school didn't do their due diligence from past problems.

For everybody pOnTiFiCaTiNg about "Lol, issa five year old, lol, whatta dum dum dummy teacher, lol!"

I taught middle and high school. Social Studies and SPED--BOLTH mainstream and self contained. I'm not in Flariduh, but I taught pubblik skool, and a LOT of it is the same:

* NO SUPPORT from administrators or parents. MANY kids raised by Goddamn fucking GRANDPARENTS and even GREAT GRANDPARENTS because their genetic dead ends were somehow even LESS responsible than Mr. RYAN HOOVES Holiday.
* SPEDS are VIOLENT. Some are bigger than the fucking Principal. Some are just like that 4chan b tard joke moderator video on Youtube:
* Again... NO SUPPORT. It ain't the good old days where your license meant you are a trusted professional who could run your classroom the way you see fit.
* Restraint. ELL OH FUCKING ELL. Wanna end up on the 5 o'clock news? Even if you follow procedure to the TEE, you are looking at the possibility of NEVER COMING HOME because your home is now county lockup central booking and the public already has the approved crafted narrative about you. Truth? What even IS THAT?

There are many real reasons there's a teaching shortage in the US. These are just a few. And for the love of almighty CHRIST, SHADDUP unless you've worked, long term, on a regular basis, and/or have the licensure and qualifications to work with special needs populations because you REALLY do not know. With all due respect.

Perhaps If Teachers wants support they should stop being Nothing more than mounthpieces for Globohomo propaganda and actually care for the kinds and prepare them for life with knowledge and values ?

This is not even a special needs school so the teacher's probably had no training in dealing with a violent child. Cool dwon rooms do nothing if the person they are angry at is in the room with them. School I'm at has padded rooms to shove the violent children/adolesecnets into that we can watch on camera. Sounds like this child required that level of care.

What that child did happens all the time in the special needs schools I've been in. I've had chairs thrown at me, been bull rushed, etc by people larger then me.

Did that to a grown adult (probably got the jump on her) but imagine if it was your child having to be on the end of this little shit.

paging @Android raptor for her take since last time she was defending violent BP kids attacking teachers as cool.
The teacher probably deserved it lmao

If a kid put most of my old teachers in the hospital, I'd buy that kid whatever toy they wanted. Sped especially is a profession that attracts terrible people. I took swings and threw shit at plenty of teachers who were cunts, but I never managed to get that level of damage. Badass kid.

Best I can tell from the other article, that "cool down" room was pretty sparse, and not in the way one would expect. With what little details they gave about it, I'm willing to bet it was less an actual room and more like a walk-in closet they cleaned out, put a desk and bookcase in for reasons, and did nothing else. I guess in all fairness, they probably don't have the budget to afford anything useful, like actual protective padding for the walls (or, y'know, proper courses to train the teachers on how to handle/deescalate bad situations or tard rage.)

It's sad how often you see facilities do the absolute bare minimum to make the place safe for both the students and the teachers/caregivers. Hell, it's not even uncommon for medical facilities to skimp on those vital safety measures. (I've known a handful of actual nurses get permanently fucked up because some 8-year-old special needs kid decided now is the time for a surprise piggy back ride while in a stairwell, and those RNs just happened to be the ones the kids spotted first and no one else knew how to intervene)

This one just makes me a bit MATI, because we all know that most small town teachers aren't paid enough to even deal with the average student, let alone kids like this that require so much specialized attention. And where this teacher already got battered by this student 2-3 times before, yet she still kept trying, you just know that she was probably the only one that actually gave a shit anymore to try and make a difference for him yet paid a (most likely) permanently life-altering price.

The fact that this isn't the first time is weird as fuck.
Either fire the teacher or send the kid to an alternative/residential school where staff can handle violent kids.

I have a feeling she had it coming tho. Most five year olds don't beat up teachers. And the ones who do it for no reason quickly end up in places where they can be restrained.

Absolutely true. And those left with any sense of values should do what I did and leave the profession.

Consequently, men are often in high demand in these jobs.
In the sense that they pay a lot of lip service to it and will try and manipulate men into accepting/staying at these jobs. If compensation is the same you don't get to offload work you're incapable of doing onto the other gender. Women in the workforce seem to fundamentally misunderstand this. Since education is probably the biggest girl's club outside of nursing: they asked for, created, and maintained the system that allows for this to happen.

the good ones do, my man. The good ones also end up retiring earliest, or quitting earliest, or transferring to better school districts the second they realize that their hard work and dedication will only ever be abused by those in charge of the ISD. I'm not sure about teachers unions like they have in New England and the like, maybe those guys have it made, but in my former home of Texas, teachers had the almost impossible task of teaching the kids anything meaningful, while also teaching them the curriculum demanded by the ISD, while also teaching them how to be functional humans, while also teaching whatever bullshit standardized, state mandated test that the schools budgets would be based on how well the students do, and ALL THIS while being terribly underfunded, and generally shit on by the parents of the many, many "problem children", usually those from fresh divorces, active abuse, and the near constant neglect in the case of black kids. The only fuckers that had a worse gig than mine back when I was a JPO, or JCO, or Detention Officer, are the teachers at low income schools, whose kids made up 98.5% of my caseload/pod/hall/dorm.

i symphatize but laws currently dont allow for systemic approach that differs, Honestly here in EU despite the bullshit that is pushed in some west EU states we have our share of shitty teachers that are very hard to get rid of, but there is decent support for them. Shit is rotten and it hurts the innocent, at this point people are so pissed they want it all to burn because atleast then the guilty will burn as well
