I'd really like to see if theres research in how being always online leads to some sort of disfunction of the personality/ego.
- A mere six weeks of engaging an online role-playing game “caused significant reductions in grey matter within the orbitofrontal cortex — a brain region implicated in impulse control and decision making.”
- People who spend way too much time strolling amid the plastic daffodils of the uncanny digital valley “perform worse in various cognitive tasks than those who do not, particularly for sustained attention.”
- “High levels of internet usage” are “associated with decreased grey matter in prefrontal regions associated with maintaining goals in face of distraction.”
- A meta-analysis of 41 studies concluded that “engaging in multi‐tasking was associated with significantly poorer overall cognitive performance, with a moderate‐to‐large effect size.”
Among children, “higher frequency of internet use over 3 years is linked with decreased verbal intelligence at follow‐up, along with impeded maturation of both grey and white matter regions.”
