They already mined the beaches and the whole city is fortified. Even if they somehow take it, they're fucked in holding it: Odessa is famed for it's catacombs, and any military commander that isn't a retard would map them and use them as corridors for moving soldiers during and after the assault, guerrilla warfare at it's best. There are some guesses that the ships posted in Odessa aren't really for an assault and are just meant to divide the ukrainian forces, it would be noticeable and the ukrainians are getting western intelligence feeds 24/7, so they would know ahead of time. Either way, they can't really destroy the catacombs without bombing the city to dust, which would make the whole point of securing a harbor moot. In World War II this same city fucked over the germans hard, safe guess that this will be the case for the russians this time!

The Neptune is a brand new missile so it's not some outdated cold war tech, and I'll be surprised if the West haven't slipped them a few anti ship missiles themselves.

Not much info on the Neptune floating around, and it's not a surprise considering it's a recent development. They were planning on deploying it at april, which means they might have some of them, but if they have those they are obviously not using them at any vessel that shows up, or they may not be useable right now. Anyways, the problem with anti-ship missiles like the harpoon is that they need to be deployed from either aircraft, coastal batteries or ships, making coastal currently the only viable way, depending on how long it would take them to set up a battery. Remains to be seen!
