Which is weird, because in theory mobility aids are supposed to give the person more independence. No, it isn't always convenient, but if a cane/walker/wheelchair/etc is the difference between staying home constantly or living your life then the choice seems obvious.
This is one of the biggest tells of a munchie for me; they could have all the mobility aids, tubes, and treatments available in the world but they never get any better. You'd think that their symptoms would improve, maybe even just a little bit. But munchies only ever get sicker and sicker, no matter what.
Right! Because these people are munchies they don't use mobility aids as a road to independence. Like a person with trouble getting into a hospital bed from a wheelchair will be taught to get into bed. Like for example if you have surgery on a knee and need a wheelchair or crutches to get to the bathroom, a nurse might teach you how to hook your good leg under the bad leg to lift it and get into bed without having to buzz them each time. A munchie wouldn't take that advice because it creates independence. They'd claim it was too painful, even though most patients would put up with some discomfort so they aren't inconvenienced by waiting for the nurses. The munchie's goal is to be the sickest (and possibly get staff attention) so they perform.
