I don't doubt they will occupy the Donbass region, but there's no way they will be able to occupy Ukraine in their current situation. With the impending collapse of the Russian economy they could have probably managed to occupy it if the invasion was swift and over before a few days, but this thing is going to last probably at least 2 months assuming no peace treaty happens and the Russians need to take Kiev.
Well, there is impending collapse, and there is impending collapse.

If Russia insist Germany have to pay their gas bill in Yuan all hell would break loose. Not that I think they will, but these are Interesting Times.

Another factor is just how well the ukies have poisoned the well for any occupation force. Handing out all those rifles may be useless for creating infantry, but it's great for starting an insurgency. That's not even counting the variety of military equipment of every kind abandoned and then stolen.
You're also forgetting the brave Reddijahideen fighters who will seamlessly blend inresist Russia until the inch of Ukrainian soil is liberated.

Man remember when we were giving weapons to Saddam, then next minute we're stringing him up. Times are wild.
In between Iran also got weapons when Iraq became too strong. More money & that way they could stretch the war unnecessarily + extra casualties on
both sides.

This is going to be a very underrated post.

The reason for the buttfucking of Libya was Gaddafi planning to go off USD and take half of North Africa with him. Saddam also had designs on starting a petro-dollar. It is the one thing the USA will never accept and always react incredibly harshly to.

Russia insisting on Germany paying that gas bill in anything other than USD would be as incendiary to the USA as a no-fly zone would be to the Russians.

I don't think the Russians care at this point.
Putin never cared. A sizable chunk of the Russian population does care, and that's going to grow the longer this presses on. It's not any sort of hard timer for Putin, but it does make for an uncomfortable pressure on him that requires he do some fairly absurd cracking down on dissent at home.

Yeah I more or less agree, but I think that the Russian calculus has never been "We want to occupy all of Ukraine!" Thats kind of a meaningless goal geopolitically. Some meaningful geopolitical goals would be things like: Securing freshwater in Crimea/making it possible to expand the influence of the Black Sea port, Making easier connection with Transnistria (which you are larping if you act like thats not functionally Russia), and potential regime change at like a 3rd.
I'm fairly sure they thought it'd be basically a walkover and that they could accomplish a regime change first. Making it easy to take either all of the country, or just the parts that they were really interested in and let the remainder of the country stay a separate puppet state. Now their original calculus has gone all to hell and what they'll try to do will mostly be a matter of where Putin thinks he can cut his losses and still save face and recover.

No I totally agree with you, it's going to be devastating, I meant long term the average American will be better off because losing it I think leaves a good opportunity for the current gay regime to be replaced with something less gay and more aligned with normalcy but that's years down the line. It's going to be really bad for a long time before that.
I doubt the regime will be replaced. These people own physical assets and have control of the media. They won't let that go. Russia has similar faces and names from when the USSR collapsed. Regime change isn't really possible when the regime owns the land and companies.

I don't think they care either, since the Russian people actually support the objectives of this war and believe the majority of Ukraine should be part of Russia they are willing to take losses. In America, the military has to bomb the shit out of their enemy so the military can walk in because the wars they wage aren't popular with most Americans and they can't take many loses. At least recently.

I see your point but I don't think all the physical assets and land won't do much good when people can't afford a loaf of bread and are pissed off outside their gates. But maybe I'm just being optimistic.
