There was a case a few years ago of an old pedo and his Asian wife going over to some 3rd world country and using a surrogate. One of the twins was a downie so they dumped him on the surrogate and took his normal sister back to Aus with them. Caused a big scandal and I'm not sure what the outcome was but I do know there was a lot of discussion about the ethics of using impoverished women as incubators and also dumping disabled babies.

Apart from in countries that seem to encourage it. India used to be a hotbed of baby farms until they clamped down on it, and business moved to Ukraine. Hence all the stories you might have seen in the news lately about Western couples dashing to grab their newborns out of a war torn country, leaving the poor postpartum woman behind, facing an uncertain future.

And then of course you only need to look at the US, for the luxury surrogacy option that so many celebrities go for. Like Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, who announced the very premature birth of their surrogate baby (apparently their schedules were too busy to ever spent time with each other and have sex, which is a totally understandable reason to rent a woman to gestate for you) along with a comment saying they were looking forward to the kid being well enough to be transferred to a LA hospital. How inconvenient to be born at 27 weeks and ruin their schedules! I bet they ask for a discount for the 13 weeks of gestation they missed out on.

Sorry for the sperg but surrogacy is one of those issues that never seems to get enough attention because it’s only poor faceless women who are exploited, and it’s seen as totally OK for infertile couples (or lazy celebs) to pursue a baby at any cost, with very little thought for the woman they’re “hiring” and equally little thought for the child.

I think he's quite cognitively impaired, which in his case is a blessing. Unlike Wetmore and the Crouzon's kid above, at least Derek will probably never know how horribly disfigured he is.

Watched this for a while thinking what the hell is he doing? Doesn't look quite like a seizure or a blind person unable to orient their head. Is it our old friend the neonatal rooting reflex retained long beyond its "usefulness"?

Prayer's For Paisley though stating that Monat was giving her tons of money and changing her life just dropped out of being a part of the MLM without notice to anyone and asked her big "clients" to message her since she can't rembember their names. She also confirmed just how sick her daughter was stating that she would stop breathing when she pooped.

That's extremely sad. That definitely makes sense and seems like yet another way that poor women in poor countries are abused for their sexual resource.

I guess these people looking for "incubators" are going out of their way to farm babies from the 3rd world because it's probably not regulated at all, and those women have no means to go after someone living in the West, legally or financially. I can see why a place like Australia might try to make it illegal, but seems like it's also going to (ironically) encourage a "black market" of people going overseas in search of these surrogates anyway, where it won't be regulated at all and the women have even less protections.

Yes, Treacher Collins syndrome causes absent or malformed ears. This lady and her kid have normal ears. That's the giveaway here.

I'm torn about the mom choosing to have a child who would very likely be affected by a disorder causing such significant malformations. On the one hand, yes, it's pretty selfish to subject a child to having to grow up with such striking craniofacial differences. On the other, people with Crouzon syndrome usually have normal intelligence. It's not like she's condemned the child to potato status. I also think it often goes unmentioned how badly we, as a species, want to see others who look like us. It's likely some kind of evolutionary instinct. This often comes up with transracial adoptees who go on to have biological children, for example. I cannot fault that woman for wanting a blood relative who physically resembled her. She was probably pretty lonely growing up, and I could understand it if she convinced herself that she and the child would have each other. Finally, physical appearance isn't everything. Good looks and physical capabilities fade. I think it's overstepping for anyone to tell this woman that she's not allowed to have a child because it might be ugly.

Just because it seems very difficult to me to live in the body that she does doesn't necessarily mean that she finds it that way. Perhaps Bruce Springsteen says it best: "You get used to anything. Sooner or later, it just becomes your life."

Most celebrities I assume are narcissist cunts who don't want pregnancy interrupting their career or wrecking their bodies? What's the point in having a kid if you're too shallow to carry it?
If you are truly infertile, I understand. But most celebrity surrogacies are all about vanity.

I watch this a few times a year and what always grabs me is not once do they treat the Mom any different than another new Mom. Baby is cooed at and loved. Palliative Care 100% is the best choice when you have a fatal diagnosis.

That’s what really choked me up, seeing the OB talk to the expecting mom like any other mom and when they showed moms and babies interacting like normal. The palliative care doctor was amazing in her approach too, she was honest but kind. I think a lot of doctors have a hard time being honest, not because they’re shitty but it hurts to tell someone their child may not be here anymore.

When I saw this post, I was hoping that Paisley was now flying with the angels, but it looks like she isn't, not yet anyway.

A few days ago, I saw a You Tube post, just a few minutes long, from a family whose son had TD but they requested no extreme measures; he was on nasal oxygen and an NG for tube feeding, and he did live 5 months.
