"It is a term of reality" is a direct take on the other person's "terms of art exist". She is claiming that a speech pathologist is merely a subtype of pathologist and that the broader class can be used in place of the narrower one with no conceptual issues, like how "black woman" is a subtype of "woman" but black women are still women. It would indeed be incoherent to say "you're a black woman, not a woman".

But she is wrong in this case: "speech pathologist" is a term of art that doesn't mean "pathologist plus speech stuff", but rather an entirely separate career path from anyone who could be correctly called a "pathologist". Ironically, it's exactly analogous to "trans women are women"; "trans" is not merely an adjective denoting a particular type of woman but a signifier that the entire phrase means something fundamentally different.

Reading that thread, I can hardly believe that Mumsnet is smeared as some kind of fiery pit of transphobia. The discussion is sensible, compassionate, and focused on the fights that matter. They seem to have generally evaded the worst excesses of many radfem spaces without sacrificing their principles and spines. Impressive. Maybe they're so reasonable because the site is aimed at mothers — i.e. people with rich lives outside the manic toss of the Internet.

I'd subscribe to any of those Mumsnetters if they started YouTube channels, but they're probably too busy to churn out hours of content every week.

That board is quite good reading if you’ve an interest in feminism etc. They are moderated very heavily (but are still pretty based at times) so they are very careful with what they say. The site owner has so far resisted all calls to purge it.

I don’t lurk there as much since I took up farming but sometimes they strike gold milk wise. And some of them will follow this cow closer than we do.

Serious answer: like many of us, she is a typical AmeriMutt born of multiple waves of European immigration. Her mother's father's mother was Irish and she got her middle name, Duella, from that branch of the family's surname. That woman married a French catholic dude. Her mother's mother's side of the family is all southern Italian. Her father's side is Danish Mormons and most likely German Lutherans.

So yes, she's Irish, but a few generations back there. The actual interesting part of her heritage, as @Ronnie Rocket points out, is that her paternal grandmother is descended from fucking handcart pioneers. But that doesn't win enough points in the culture wars, I guess.
