Church is tomorrow and I just remembered the pastor will probably spend 80% of the sermon talking about how evil Russia is and how the two Methodists in Ukraine and taking people into their churches and feeding them and how we need to pray for an end to the violence and 6 gorillion children being sniped while waiting in breadlines.

How mentally ill are journalists that they think this is fine? Send these fuckers to China and see if they feel the same way when state security barges into their hotel room every half hour.
Yet, you still attend. You still tithe. There’s a sucker born every minute, I guess, but at least they have the excuse that they’re too dumb to know. You know you’re getting ripped off at church, come in here to complain about it, yet for all your bitching about it you’re going to go right back over there tomorrow. You are a chump.

Maybe that’s the case. But there’s also those whose hearts have turned to stone and unable to voice their solidarity and sympathy with the Russians that have been unpersoned. If anything, I think it’ll just keep things how they are and reinforce current feelings.
The rejoinder to people not caring about Russian People suffering from western sanctions is Russian People not caring about Ukrainian people suffering from Russian military aggression. To use the often thrown around phrase here, this is war. And the western countries REALLY want Russia to lose this war, or at least pay such an enormous price some other would be aggressor (China v. Taiwan) will think really hard about doing something similar. While western politicians say the sanctions are not aimed at hurting ordinary Russian, that is not true at all. The sanction are aimed deliberately at hurting the Russian People. The US and Europe can't bomb Russian cities over this and really make the point land in their living rooms with a B52, but they can come pretty close with removing them from the global economy.

Dunno...apparently President Lincoln said to one of his generals while visiting defeated Richmond, to "let 'em up easy".
Believe you would have seen a fairly benign occupation.

He also had "Dixie" played in the White house when the North won, though maybe that was supposed to be the musical equivalent of parading the Menorah in Rome after crushing the Jews.

Edit: A little of the former, a little of the latter

Would be great if Ukrainians took back some of the occupied land (not crimea/dpr/lpr) in the upcoming weeks. Even if it's just villages and small towns.
while they're definitely making the ruskies work hard for their gainz, offensively I'm honestly thinking we'll see anything of substance on that front only towards the end and if Russia has to pullback in bitter shame due to their logistical nightmares. because while Russians have a hard time taking territory, Ukranians trying to take it back with most of their professional military locked down in the east and having to content with russian cruise missiles and arty would probably feel something like this old meme:

...not to say the end result can't be the same as the source material of that meme tho. but I really doubt we'll see it for at least a month or so.

I've prayed for the soldiers/civilians on both sides. I have no idea why anyone would spin this in a religious way for either side's favor. That's pretty shitty.

I can't help but think that everyone involved in this conflict is destined to lose.

Militarily: I think Russia will lose the war in the end, but it won't be an easy fight by any definition. Ukraine's military will still suffer a lot more in terms of losses. Don't think Crimea or Donbass is coming back under the fold.

In human costs: Russia and Ukraine were both suffering from horrible population trends before this war. For the Russians, a lot of their young men are going to die and Russia will soon begin to really feel a brain drain going on as intellectuals and such flee to the Caucasus and Central Asian countries. Chechens, Dagestanis and other Central Asians will continue to become a larger and larger portion of Russia's population. Ukraine is also losing a lot of young men, as well as just a lot of every demographic. Not to speak of the millions of people who have already fled Ukraine and might not return.

The US: Any geopolitical clout gained from bragging that we successfully saved Ukraine with Javelins will be offset by economic chaos. US financial dominance will continue fading away as we hurdle towards the return to the natural, multipolar state of affairs in the world. We were already doomed to being fucked by inflation and rising prices regardless of the war's outcome anyways. Oh, and if the US ends up feeling obligated to help Ukraine rebuild it's going to get even worse.

China: Well, okay, China is actually the only major player who isn't losing... but what's the fun in having to prop up Russia as a vassal state? Also, this 'total economic warfare' playbook is 100% making Xi ask himself if he needs to revise his Taiwan plans.
The chinks basically absorbing russia would be a huge win for them, a huge landmass that will become insanely valuable after climate change turns tons of farmland into deserts, plus oil and minerals everywhere
The "message" sent by fighting on against the odds can be quite valuable, depending on the disposition of your enemies. The Confederates got a relatively conciliatory treatment, and so did the Chechens, because everyone knew that it was a hard fight that they never wanted to have again. The Nepalese even got to be the British Empire's attack dogs after the conquest for the fight they put up. But it can also go the other way, with the Germans getting their entire civilisation dismantled using the latest cultural technologies (ironically developed by German Jews in Frankfurt) because they proved themselves to be too dangerous. But even in the German case their economy was rebuilt with American help, once the plan of that bitter Jew Morgenthau got supplanted by Southern good ol'boy Marshall.

IMO the question hinges on the legitimacy of the regime, whether it is actually Ukrainians fighting for their autonomy or just rootless cosmopolitans cynically sacrificing the people within their assigned economic zone to preserve the DNC's slush fund.
The marshall plan was a fraction of the money germ-ans lost when all their tech and patents were seized as reparashuns

Basically startup capital to get them from going commie
How long before some heads explode? Lol. :story:
They wont, ever, NPCs are doublespeak-compliant and can simultaneously call a canadian trucker fighting for his rights a nazi worst than hitler while they suck off actual nazis wearing nazi symbols in ukraine
Since the war is going so slowly, let me introduce you to one of the silliest things the Russians are claiming to try to field. Meet SOTNIK. a combat suit Russia claims can stop a .50 BMG, how it's going to stop one without turning the wearers insides into liquid mush the world will never know.

Its actually amazing tech, I'll explain how it works: it doesnt
That bread and circuses requires them to be able to keep it up forever, never allowing significant amounts of pain to reach the pacified populations until it's too late. Recent trends seem to be indicating that they are losing the ability and competence required to keep everyone drugged. They are not immune to entropy.
Oh but its already happening, see how quality of life in the west has been going down from the 90s, or since the 60s. The middle classes are going extinct, the elites are richer than any time before in human history, society its getting more fragmented and nobody trust anybody

But it doesnt matters because you have a 5G antenna up your ass (metaphorically) so you can get memes and games and videos and porn and other shit thats destroying your brain like meth would so you're too fucking distracted to notice how everything its collapsing around you, and when you do notice what you do? you go back at being numbed down by your phone

>Explained that people are just jumpy right now
I wonder if thats what happened to the journalist and conscripts that where killed in Ukrainian controlled territory
"Yo this dude looks weird and doesn't speak Ukrainian or Russian, better shoot first inspect bodies later"
Gonzalo Lira is more ludicrous than anything else, which probably keeps him safe. They should put him on a train and he can sperg to his marks that the Ukie neo-Nazis have expelled a fearless truth teller, allowing him ro re-up on Patreon or whatever is his main source of coin.

Interesting video asking ordinary russians if they think ww3 will happen
(don't read the comments, too much autism)
I recommend this channel by the way, it's an good insight on how common russian citizens think of stuff.
Those young men at the start seem sensible, but every sensible person thought this war wouldn't happen. WW3 is still unlikely, but there's a tiny chance Putin could go all Samson on us all and try order a launch of something very negative, if, say, his spook praetorian guard decided this war was a wretched error, and tried to force him out. Still, this war is a scaled up version of earlier Putin operations, albeit with Russian forces performing very indifferently, so the short to medium term outcome is some sort of deal neither side likes, but both need.

I somehow doubt Putin is listening to much to Turkey who make efforts to appear neutral but supplied a very useful drone system to the Ukrainians, which they didn't have to. The Romans talked of 'Punic faith' and maybe Russia might see 'Turkish faith' in the present situation.

A world war is no longer unlikely given the circumstances.

They are invited to serve as the guarantors of demiltarized Ukraine alongside Germany and... somebody else, I forgot. Could be France, could be England.

Using a hypersonic Missile that is designed to deliver a nuclear weapon through an air defense grid to blow up an ammunition dump is a huge misallocation of resources, unless of course they literally had no other weapon available to do it.
Eh, it's also good for sending a message that not all of that money was wasted, and that they do have something to show for it. It can tell NATO "fuck your air defense, this gets through"

Also tells NATO Russian Bears and Blackjacks cannot handle NATO air defenses. If these bombers are flying over Russia to launch cruise missiles instead of dropping heavy bombloads on Ukraine due to present Uke air defenses, a major signal has been sent.
