That wasn't Ape Escape that did that, that was Spyro.Enjoyed 1-3 for being fun romps. Thinking about the first one really was amazing for it time as it showed that PS1 can have games like Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie with 3D platforming with cameran controls.
The third is my personal favorite as well, the costume changes are fun and the theming of the levels being TV/movie sets is really fun as well.I remember the third game being my personal favorite. Although they were all great.
I started playing Ape Escape 2 on an emulator and it's touching my inner child in all the right places. I like that it plays just like the first one and barely changed the controls, but with better graphics. My only complaints are that Jimmy is an annoying little shit (Spike had more of a lackadaisical stoner type voice but Jimmy has an adult woman voicing him, I think) and Pipotchi seems pretty much useless so far other than letting me hang in the air for an extra second. Still, I'm hooked enough to play it to completion.you should check out 2 and 3 if you like the first one but yeah dumb idea to remake the first for the psp of all things
Never got past that fucking catfish in the first game.
I played the pal version which is closer to the japanese one, of the two dubs it's better and Jimmy (Kakeru in Pal) is voice by a guy but also runs at 50fps rather than 60fps sadly. For a game like this, always got to go for the frame rate.I started playing Ape Escape 2 on an emulator and it's touching my inner child in all the right places. You need to use the rowboat to avoid it. All the trippiest levels are past that one, so it'd be a shame to never see the rest of the game.
They're all canonical prequels to Planet of the Apes.i remember thinking monkey ball and ape escape existed in the same 'world' for some reason lol
If this thread contributed to your discovery of the best game of the PS2 era, that makes my soul feel good.Okay, so now I've beaten it. I got exactly two game overs: once during the second phase of the final boss, and once during the secret final final boss. It was worth playing every level 2-3 times just to hear the line, "I'm gonna spank you, monkey!" and unlocking Spike for New Game Plus resolves the biggest complaint I had previously.
TL;DR: Awesome game. New favorite. Wish I had it as a kid.
lol, ok trannyConfession time, I picked the female character in Ape Escape 3 because she was cuter and a nicer change of pace than the very generic male character.
I mean, I named my account after her, best character and best song for sure.I still get drunk to this song
