Of course, there are no Republicans in
Star Trek and there are no Democrats either because the United States, or at least as we understand it, ceased to exist at by end of World War III. Bob naturally fails to understand this because he never even tried a deep dive into Trek lore. If he did, he would know that the 20th and 21st centuries are largely a blur with very little concrete information. I would mark the early
ST timeline with these milestones.
-Eugenics Wars (1992-96)
-The Bell Riots (2024)
-World War III (2026-2053)
-First Contact (2063)
-United Earth (2150s)
-Founding of he UFP (2161)
The Eugenics Wars were of particular interest of me because is was supposed to happen within my lifetime, but very little is known about them. Greg Cox wrote about them as a covert war in
The Rise and Fall of Khan Nonnien Singh, but it's not canon and the closest they have been to being depicted was in
Enterprise where Archer's negotiated to truce to evacuate civilians. It should be worth noting that we are coming to the year the Bell Riots happened, and I don't see any Sanctuary Districts around. As for World War III, very little is known about it other than it resulted in 600 million dead and few governments left standing. Lily made reference to the Eastern Coalition as one of the major combatants, and "Encounter at Farpoint" show depicted a (kangaroo) court during the post-atomic horror, which is said to have lasted until 2079. Nothing is known about how it started, though some speculate that it resulted from unresolved tensions from the Eugenics Wars.
Bob doesn't even realize that it took humanity decades to recover from WWIII as you can see the conditions Zefram Cochrane had to work in in
First Contact. Even then, Earth did not fully recover and unify until Archer's era and it was still two centuries until they reached the relative decadence and complacency of TNG. As
@Adamska said, Bob is a parochial and dishonest waste. He's about as much a superficial fake nerd as you can get.
