What we got

Disgusting

Just a heads up, the Arceus that you can get in BDSP is NOT shiny locked. I repeat, NOT locked. This is the first time someone in the US can legitimately obtain a shiny God.
I want to hunt Arceus but that requires me to hunt Dialga first and I don't have 2 legendary shiny hunts in me right now.

Shouldn't have gotten your hopes up. The only time you'd get a pokemon whose design is on par with blue eyes white dragon is if it was legendary and even then, we've had Dialga for years.
Lol i know its too far fetched to expect something like that, but come on... Duraludon looks like a fridge with stumpy little legs! Something a la Skarmory or Corviknight but beefier wouldve worked for me

I just beat the Elite Four in SoulSilver for the first time and something's bugging me. I missed out on gen II when I was a kid so everything about this generation is relatively new to me.

Why does the game push you so hard to fight/catch the box legendary? In the first gen the legendaries were just chilling at the end of a dungeon, and it was up to the player to decide whether to get involved. In the later gens there was some sort of global catastrophe that the legendary was either perpetuating or could help stop (though I haven't played either gen IV/V in a decade, so I could be remembering wrong). In gen II, on the other hand, Team Rocket has already been defeated, and there's no impending disaster. So why is the game so urgent with the kimono girls performing their ceremony and the game refusing to let me progress? Why do we need to make Ho-oh/Lugia appear? It's just odd.

Also, am I the only person who genuinely thought the kimono girls were the same woman following me around?

Original Gold and Silver didn't do that, but in Crystal, they hyped up Suicune a lot that they kinda had to make it a big deal, although they disguised that in the "plot" to further expand the lore of Johto so nobody cared the pacing was off-kilter for it--meanwhile the Unown still got fucked. (Interestingly, Mewtwo and Articuno had actual build up in-game and there's a reason Mewtwo's considered the final boss of RBGY. You still weren't made to go catch any of them, though, that's correct.) HGSS pretty much is Crystal with an upgrade, so that included Legendary plot-lore. I love HGSS to death, but it was honestly a little annoying to be interrupted with random Kimono Girls throughout the game from as early as Violet City (wtf). They luckily made up for it with pretty cool cut-scenes and entrances for Ho-Oh and Lugia and I think the battles had a bit more oomph.

EDIT: Lugia and Ho-Oh had build up as well with the lore in Ecruteak, but they were optional bosses anyway.

Yes.

It's because they want the main legendaries to be more involved in the story rather than be a side mission. It is on the main box art, so why not give the sucker some special treatment? I never minded it personally because they've almost always done it in a way to showcase the legend's power and give them a cool introduction.

It could be worse. They could do what some fan games (Resurgence, Reborn, etc.) have done and made almost every legendary pokemon in the series be involved in the story one way or another.

Reminder that special alternate versions of pokemon like spikey earred pichu were not tried again.

Sure there were regional forms but its not the same as a subspecies of pichu exclusive to HG/SS that unlocks the "pikachu colored" Pichu. It's Redundant since both pichu and pikachu are the same fucking color scheme in game, but still a neat little event that would have made more sense to unlock Celebi or something since you visit the same shrine for spikey earred pichu's event that the celebi event happens at in the original games in Ilex Forest.

Wasn't it the other way around (discolored pichu for spiky ear)? Source: Did it in a recent playthrough to get the Zap Plate, because I missed the Week Sibling with the magnet by one day.

Even though it would never be technically feasible, does anyone else think the English localizations would do well to have gendered pronouns? It just feels weird to be told over and over that Pokemon are pets/partners/special and still refer to them as "it." Case in point:

Dunno, it just sounds awkward to me.

IIRC TPCi flip-flops on gendered and gender-neutral pronoun usage when referring to the creatures themselves for some unngodly reason, a BW-era licensing “guidebook” tells licensors to use gender-neutral pronouns for ALL Pokémon but games made by GF occasionally refer to certain Pokémon with gendered pronouns.

It would be nice to have Pokémon referred to with their proper pronouns but it'll mean relocating some of the budget from other departments and with Gamefreak's track record of getting their money's worth, I think it's a terrible idea. Just use your imagination. I always refer to my Pokémon with their gender like my female Dusknoir is "she" and "her", my male Overqwil is "he" and "him" while genderless Pokémon are still "it".
