During my time living in Saint Petersburg I certainly never got the impression that our Eastern brothers and sisters wavered in their veneration of Our Blessed Mother. Never saw a short line before the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan at Kazan Cathedral. Seeing that devotion certainly strengthened my confidence in Catholics and Orthodox drawing ever closer to eventual full reconciliation, slowly but surely.

Ok, let's pretend that this matter and country really will forgo it's energetic safety (critical branch that keeps economy running) for some petty cash.

Europe will still have much larger flow of gas from other sources than Russia. Baltic pipe from Norway, tanker from Qatar, maybe from US. This gas will be more expensive in most cases, but Russian gas has hidden tax: the risk that Putin will pull another powermove, stop pumping gas though pipe he chooses as attempt of extortion. Just like he did in winter 2021.

And what even Gazprom can do right now to bribe politicians? The gig is up. We know that Putin uses energy as a weapon, so siding with that already puts you in hot water. We know that finances of Russia aren't great right now, and things aren't looking promising in future. They can sell their gas much cheaper and keep difference between paid price and market price, but that kinda defeats point of selling gas in a first place, doesn't it?

Speaking of literally who, it turns out that some Reddit communist has this conflict all sorted out, and I'm sure he will resolve the war any minute now. A small group of Redditors have coalesced behind his series of irrelevant and autistic realistic, powerful demands, and Zelensky and Putin are rumoured to be quaking in their boots:

These strange demands seem to have come from an even more autistic article on some small Wordpress 'publication' by a Reddit clique, archived here.

One of the aspects that stands out from reading this is the insistence on not naming Putin, as if he was Voldemort:

So, in brief, though it might seem like a slow news day, a modern Lenin has locked Putin and Zelensky in a room and is listing his pronouns making his demands that will resolve the war, in what will soon be seen as 10 updoots that shook the world.

Not going to happen. The Orthodox church was deeply humiliated by the Latin one. Both have been enemies for 800 or 900 years. Furthermore, Orthodox schisms will assure that not all churches will accept Catholics as non-schismatics.

To further shit on this apparent intercept, here's the weather for the city/region mentioned. For some context, frostbite is your tissue freezing which requires sub-zero temps a bit more than what they're dealing with or extended exposure.
More than 50% of the soldiers would need to be sleeping in wet gear outside without any way to warm up or cover up to get frostbite. 50% frostbitten Russians when it's only freezing at night!

I have had frost bite so many times I have lost track. I have had sunburns worse than basic frostbite. Anyone who has exposed bare skin to snow for any length of time has had frostbite. Until I see pictures of dead Russians missing fingertips they can fuck off. All that shit is just propaganda nonsense. Why anyone would fall for it, I don't know (oh yeah, Redditors who live in basements watch a lot of movies.)
