It's a bit trickier than that. One thing to consider is that people may not miss the soviet union, but they certainly miss the influence it had, and being one of the two superpowers. For all his faults, from a Russian perspective, Putin has done quite a bit to restore that influence, compared to when he took over. Let me pedal backwards and say this about meddling and anti-US sentiment. The US is at least for a little while still World Power Nr. 1, China being close Nr. 2, Russia being somewhere in the Top 5, maybe. These countries cannot afford to meddle in other countries business, because when one of them stops, another will move in one way or another to extend its absolute influence, it's just how the world works because of human nature or some shit.
