Casualties is does not mean dead, it means being injured in some way to take the individual out of combat duties. People were getting blown up at an insane rate, just because the US has a great evac system for wounded people does not mean they're not saddled with blown off legs and massively burned bodies. Relative to WW2, Korea and Vietnam the death rate was rather low but there was some serious fucking damage going on in Iraq and Afghanistan that largely gets ignored in favor of the small KIA number.

There's going to be a ton of soldiers returning home mentally FUBAR'd, more so than usual, Ukrainians and Russians can understand each other, even if they don't know the other language, they're similar enough where they can get a pretty accurate jest of what's being said, it's so much easier to shoot someone if they're just screaming gibberish. That and the fact this is actually a modern war and not fighting goat hoarders with mainly AK-47s, RPG-7s, and Technicals.

Seeing your buddy get shot and die is one thing, seeing your buddy get hit by artillery or an IFV's autocannon and most of him just disappearing in a cloud of dirt, smoke, and a red mist is another.

Also it does kind of work in World of Tanks, send one or two very fast tanks to rush the enemy and distract them hard while the rest of the team sets itself up and gets fast to the major advantage points before the enemy does, also gives away the whole enemy team as well.

Still amazes me how people don't realise what can happen to the human body when it is hit by fast moving metal things. Even people who you think might be aware are shocked to see a head without a face or limbs literally blown off from pressure waves.
Many moons ago I had to study the effects of various calibre rounds, on various parts of the body, and the effects of really large things like tank shells and shrapnel. All these wonderful photos, from WW1 up to the late 80's, were in a couple of MoD books and not for the coffee table. What is amazing is how many people survive even though the immediate medical care was very basic and not that sterile. Pretty sure alot of them would have prefferred to have died, though.
The invisible injuries are still overlooked and not taken as seriously as they should. It is getting better but ptsd/depression etc has been latched onto by everyone who wants some attention so the real sufferers don't get the help they really deserve.

Since Ukraine is obviously the fairest and most transparent democracy in Europe it would be absurd to think that a huge chunk of military aid is just getting siphoned off to be resold after the war is over.

Thankfully the aid is being sent as nice shiny weapons. I think we have awhile before anybody gets the bright idea to sell them on, given that the wolves are not at the door. They are inside the house chewing on the furniture.

Ironically if Crimea wasn't annexed Ukraine had to potential to be a lot wealthier, they discovered significant oil reserves in the black sea shortly before Russia annexed Crimea, which just of happened to make Ukraine lose access to a most of the discovered reserves.
