In all seriousness, my temper tantrum aside, this is much needed. Someone does need to investigate this off-label usage. He's doing it for political reasons imo, largely fueled by right-wing distaste for trans shit just because it's partisan progressive talking points rather than caring about children's health. (And because it's gross and icky, which, fair)
You cannot convince me that the man that went on television and literally said grandma would be happy to die to keep Walmart open because he didn't like the Covid lockdowns gives one flying fuck about the health of our children. I'm sorry, but you just can't. Republicans have cried "think of the children" for far too long over far too silly things for me to believe they are honestly thinking of the children now, and not mostly looking to stick it to Democrats - that it does help children is just a convenient rallying point for their base, just like the white six-month old babies they use on abortion billboards.

But, as someone who does care about the harm done to the children, I am happy to see this being looked into, even if I'm cynical af as to the political reasons therefore. So, like all good terfs, I will work with Republicans on this issue. The enemy of my enemy is my ally.

I'm in the exact same position, as I suspect a lot of people are. I find myself increasingly driven into the arms of candidates and political figures I would normally find distasteful at best, simply by virtue of the sheer insanity of what should be the terrain of moderate liberals.
As ironic as it is in the context of your comment, I think it comes down to respective levels of honesty. Yeah, conservatives do a lot of pearl-clutching that I often consider disingenuous, and I frequently question their true motives for espousing the positions that they do, but they are still less dishonest than liberals/Democrats at this point. I'm at the stage where I would honest-to-god rather deal with a fossilized Boomer preacher telling me to my face that the suffragists were wrong, than have to interact with another 30-something liberal dudebro whose only workout is lifting his daily fucking Starbucks soysoup to his mouth telling me female athletes "just need to train harder" and following it up by informing me that I'm doing feminism wrong for prioritizing actual women in it.
At least the preacher's position is consistent and follows some kind of logic, even if it's a deeply flawed one. I have something to agitate against, to robustly counter, instead of the constantly shifting goalposts of trying to deal with liberal gaslighting. I found myself the other night lying awake honestly hoping that the GOP runs de Santis in the next presidential race, and that he wins in a landslide. I'm very much in "you get what you fucking deserve" territory vis-a-vis liberals these days. Fuck the lot of them, at least some of the conservatives do good BBQ and know when it's appropriate to STFU about politics and just be normal anyways,

I think the problem here is that the lunatics are running the asylum in both parties and so there's no where for us moderates to go.
The Republicans seem to be diving into Qanon batshit territory with legit uneducated idiots winning their way into the halls of the House and child molesters almost winning Senate seats.
The Democrats have a vocal idiot far- left Squad of cows that vote against their own interest on the regular.

The platforms for each party - which I know are nothing more than grandstanding wishlists increasingly read like deranged fever fantasies from Stephen King. A few years ago the Texas Republicans voted in their platform to decriminalize small amounts of weed - and to abolish cps entirely. A good idea and a batshit crazy idea.
Where are the normal people who don't lean far-right or far- left supposed to go? You can't even say you want to vote based On a person's record anymore, because of peer pressure to vote in lockstep. Third parties just don't work here, it's really not viable the way our system is set up. A large portion of voters is being left behind and no one cares.
