I've only seen a couple of his things. Isn't he the guy who always kills his characters in brutal fashion? I'm gonna guess that this will continue on with the extremely dark tone of V8, looks like the attempt to turn RWBY into a serious and grimdark show for mature people is continuing. Shame, but it literally cannot be any worse than the regular show so I'll give it a chance.

What's so bad about Gen? Surely things can't be so bad if you end up with a nickname like "Urobutcher".
The Urobutcher is doing a RWBY anime!!? Oh, this is going to be good. Say what you will about Gen, he's a far more competent writer than anyone writing for RWBY now. Well, he's technically not listed as the scriptwriter or scenario writer but as "Animation Concept". Looks like he's coming up with the basic ideas of the setting, but the actual writing duties are in the hands of Ubukata. I remain cautiously optimistic, as the first season of Psycho Pass is still one of my favorite anime ever.
I think that would require either shuffling Warner Media assets, or selling the IP completely. And I don't think RT will let their biggest thing go away without a fight.
I just don't like his work is all, the guy tends to get up his own ass in his writing and they call him Urobutcher because he has a proclivity for killing characters, usually in pretty horrible ways. I'm not opposed to that per se, but the way he does it is usually for nothing more than basic shock value. He's still a writer who's leagues better than M&K or Monty but this entire thread is dedicated to why that isn't an accomplishment.

I get that people know Gen's work through his more...darker stuff. I think he himself knows this as well because the dude is capable of doing different stuff. But one of my favorite behind-the-scenes stories about him was for their 3D Godzilla movies, he and the other writer was really bummed that the director said that monsters weren't really gonna fight.
Rooster Teeth is probably not long for this world and will be shut down once the Discovery-Warner Media deal is done. Word is, the new CEO is planning to cut $3 billion in costs, due to the large amount debt that needs to be paid down. RT is on the chomping block, as they've been trying to sell it for a while now. Its IP will either be sold off or farmed to another entity.

Only when it's rumors or third party people they barely know well enough, and not their former VP who was a wife-beating monster they essentially downplayed like they were embarrassed to virtue signal against.
I can see this sentiment, but with him not directly penning the script it might not be too pretentious. All in all, still cautiously optimistic. It added some bonuses for me since it's already got Twitter trogs losing their minds. If nothing else it'll provide some laughs on that front when Blake and Yang get Urobutchered.
