Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

If you haven't seen the insanity that is Pikabellechu behold.

She's in her 40s. Lives with her elderly mother. Presumably unemployed other than crafting commissions. Brags about being a former Disney actress at the parks.

But her pride and joy is her "Chuseum" a hoard full of Pikachu Merch. She's been in Guinness and even drives a PikaBug that the Pokémon company used. (Though other PikaBug owners claim its fake.
I've seen an image of her car in a Pokemon magazine back in late 2006 and as a kid, I was wowed that such a thing exists but now as an adult, I think it's just sad.

What's with these "kawaii" aesthetic videos and always featuring the same six or seven Pokémon? It's always Pikachu, the Eeveelutions, or some other cutesy Pokémon from Kanto. If you're gonna consoom at least be diverse. I wanna see a guy go all autistic and have a ton of shelves with merchandise dedicated to all 800+ Pokémon. Now that would be funny.
It's mostly normie appeal because why use cute Pokemon like Teddiursa, Mincinno, Dedenne, etc. when you can use the more recognisable Mon like Pikachu, the Eeveelutions and Jigglypuff.
Even though some people say that they're a fan of Pokemon, what they actually mean is that they liked the OG games, played some of the remakes or Pokemon Go during it's height of popularity (when it still only had 151 Pokemon).
No normie goes out of Kanto.

It's possible, too, like even the ugliest and most obscure Pokemon have a series of merch:

even Mr. Mime got a plush that was sold at big box retail in the states when the Detective Pikachu movie was new:

I'm sure some nutcase somewhere has a wall with plushes of all 800+ pokemon and it cost them as much as a luxury car

Like this fella.

Or these people, who I just read owns pretty much every single pokemon plush that's been released at the pokemon store so far. They even took pictures on their twitter of the cost of just one haul, which is about $1,500.

Holy crap! I remember seeing her on various websites in 2004.

I recall another Kiwi Farmer brought this same topic up in one of anime fan lolcow threads (I think it was the ANN thread), but it's depressing but also funny as hell at the same time to see the old 00's weebs still doing the same old crap as they did 20 years ago with no apparent changes or improvements in their lives. Even the VW Beetle is the same and she hasn't upgraded to a newer one or moved onto another tiny bubble car like a Fiat 500.

It looks like she got with a Henry the 8th cosplayer.

On this week's episode of Talk About Games, the hosts go on a 9-minute long rant at the start of the show about consoomers in all but name, and it's pretty great:

They film in advance, so they're talking about Mario Day (March 10th), and they go on to rant about stupid corporate holidays, and other nonsense like Pi Day.

Well, I got my wish. Not sure how to feel about that.

where do they get this kind of money.
If you're not worried about building up savings and just spend all your non essential income on this kinda stuff it really wouldn't take that long to build up a hoard like this, especially if you've been buying like that for a couple years.

If you're just spending like the world's about to end it wouldn't be unreasonable to be able to buy 30 or 40 plushes a year, after five years that's 150-200 plushes.

Every nerd I've known who is really big into Pokémon (or hell, any) plushies is massively depressed. They crave that dopamine hit and don't realize, even after their 40th Pokémon Center store delivery, that this isn't doing it for them. But maybe the new "ditto as" plushie will do it this time?!

No they will not spend that money on therapy. Therapy should be free therefore spending whole income on merch instead is acceptable.

where do they get this kind of money.

My experience says: your tax dollars.

At absolute best: from their part time retail job that is basically all fun money because they live with loving, enabling old parents/grandparents who make little to no demands of them. Like when you had a summer job as a teenager with parents who let you keep/spend your paychecks as you see fit, but now into your 30s and 40s.

At least they are working, I guess.

I knew people like her. they say they love Pokémon, anime, LOZ, and obsess over a character, but they hardly play the game or watch the shows. I think it's some weird personality they want to achieve. it's odd. I just hope no one wants her as a wife. or their wedding would look like this.

I bet it smells bad.

Does she use the funko pop?

Take a girl or guy on HRT, covered in tattoos, that advertise their favourite games/movies, then surround them with consumerist stuff. Wearing the latest promotional cosplay, and makeup, filiming dildoing themselves with a funkopop to finance their lifestyle. A corporate marketers dream? Is that the endgame?

I have no clue why, I stopped caring after Sun and Moon. The gen 3 remakes where already a gigantic slap to the face for me, but I should of saw it coming. Now the newer games have even less features, and new/old existing features are behind a paywall. Fuck that.
It's like Simpsons vs. Zombie Simpsons; or the different "eras" of South Park. It's the same IP, but not the same "thing". Pokémon Emerald was the last time Satoshi Tajiri was anything other than "Executive Producer" and was actually working on the games hands-on. You can see that reflected in the franchise writ large. It's no longer about the games. The games are just another kind of Pokémon merch.
I actually liked Detective Pikachu. It was dumb fun, but it was pretty, and strangely, it felt more like "old Pokémon" to me because it felt closer to the Pokémon world of the original games vs. the Pokémon world of modern games. Kanto in Red and Blue felt like "Japan, but a few steps removed", but Galar is fluffy woowoo theme-park-land.

Gen IV was still good but after that the creative differences between the teams really shows.
