Let's be fair, all iterations of the Russian polity was never really known for its military prowess. Every single one of its legendary victories can be attributed to the innate Russian will to survive, superior numbers and materiel, the harsh winters or simple hubris from its invading foes, but it has never been attributed to brilliant generalship.

It is what it is.
The Russian leadership is unironically Zap Brannigan. Just sending waves of troops against the enemy killbots.

This particular video already drew the attention of Russia's investigative committee. Not sure why it's not Ministry of Defense, but an official investigation to identify the perpetrators is now underway.
I'm not exactly sure how your government is structured with that, would the investigation committee be something like a congressional investigation in the US, or something like the department of justice?

DPR soldiers capture Ukrainian troops (link)

Russian troops use an ATGM. Location not specified; I assume it's the Donbass since the channel usually posts videos from that place specifically (link)

Ukies use a Verba MRL. Location unspecified; most likely the Donbass (link)

More like Department of Justice. Handling criminal investigations and persecution.
Well that makes sense if you think about it. The crimes happened on rightful Russian soil after all. I'm sure the local department has already sent investigators to collect evidence and interview locals.
which one of these best describes you / your current mood? I’m the one on the right I think.

Me on the left. Hangry.

Thanks, the name was throwing me off a bit. Out of curiosity do you know if the ministry of defense would really be equipped to handle an investigation? Sounds to me like they want to get those particular people charged with something post war.

Pretty much this, yes. Except we aren't at peace time and right now everything has to go through the Ministry of Defense, including all news. Which is why you get these ridiculous numbers of casualties, the news are only allowed to reprint the contents of Ministry of Defense's press releases or risk a fine under the new "disinformation" laws.

The same laws that require every mention of Facebook be labeled as (*identified as terrorist organization on the territory of Russian Federation), speficifally forbid using the words "war" and "invasion" and can, in theory, get you 15 years in gulag for a retweet if it "lead to grave consequences". The law doesn't specify what those are.

That sounds like a nightmare of red tape to deal with, I had no idea your ministry of defense took such precedence in a time of war. Thanks for answering all my dumb questions, I really appreciate having someone with some local knowledge explain some stuff.

Come to think of it, I can't remember any major Russian war in last century or two fought in Siberia, excluding the Civil War.
Only the soviet-japanese war that comes to mind.

Plus, it's not like military competence carries over a century, it comes and goes, especially given Russian levels of corruption in the army.
Russia has a century-old quasi-modernised "Deep Battle" doctrine inspired by their racial superiors, the Mongols. On paper it's an incredibly sophisticated strategy focusing on pocketing the enemy and snuggle-struggling them out of existence. Alas, Russians are adhering to that military doctrine to a fault by trying to encircle every city without the size to back it up. It is embarrassing. Chances are that even in the absence of corruption they would have messed up because Putin set up unrealistic, politicised expectations for his army. I wouldn't be surprised if Vlad the Mad thought he was Caesar and that the Dnieper river was his own Rubicund.

Russia doesn't have a strong judiciary system. Chances are this will green-light blatant atrocities since similar legal mechanisms were employed prior to Grozny getting #Cancelled.

Dead on, and much more eloquent that I could be. Those kamikaze pilots had a sort of honor that most cannot imagine, a lot of folks just can't fathom that sort of duty.

Kamikaze pilots got too much credit for what was expected of every Japanese (including civilians).
The stories of Japanese soldiers suicide charging with a knife against a large group of heavily armed U.S. soldiers was numerous throughout the war.

This guy reported yesterday that Russian Army left the Sumy oblast to reinforce encirclement at Donbass.
Just saying.
Oh maybe. An advance is an advance, tho. If territory is abandoned without fighting, it still is lost. In fact could suggest a severe tightness with manpower for the Russians, perhaps from a mix of an original lack of numbers and attrition from various causes. Obviously there could be a proper callup of conscripts and reservists, but it is interesting this has not happened.

Realistically, even if they wanted to, they couldn't, and that's even if they pushed all the Russians out of Ukraine. I don't see them really having the capabilities to mount that kind of offensive anymore. Maybe pre war if they had strategic and tactical surprise. Also saying the don't want to retake it by force isn't the same thing as saying they don't want it back.
