What are the chances of any Cubans joining the Russian Federation in this "special operation", especially if its turns into an insurgency? Very curious since they're still friends with the both the Russian Federation and China, especially if they get some free/uber cheap gas/grain out of it.
Pretty low I'd say. I know when they were involved in the Angolan Civil War, it took up nearly all of their merchant marine capabilities, and things have only gotten worse for them since. To get there by air or sea they'd either have to take a very long circular route, or pass through nato countries, which obviously is a definite no go.
He saw various working rifles/weaponry jerryrigged in Iraq and Afghanistan and sounded impressed. I don't know about the quality but it's been done.
Oh yeah, they do some crazy things with modifying guns over there. I'll also point out that they seem to have more people missing hands. I'll let you decide how related that is.

Zero. Without big daddy Soviet Union, Cuba exists at America's sufferance and they know it. They won't do anything to antagonize Washington because they know if they did they would get squashed like a bug.

So it seems that in the recent interview Zelensky says he's willing to concede the Donbas region in addition to Crimea as part of a peace deal as well as become a neutral state.

Earlier I was curious why the Russian's would censor this interview, and the info below may have something to do with it. Not sure if the Russians are keen on broadcasting a rant from Zelensky on alleged Russian disregard for the dead.

>be Ukrainian president
>use hospitals, schools, and shopping centers as ammo dumps and sniper positions
>regularly try to sneak arms and combatants in amongst 'civilian traffic'
>force civies to remain in besieged cities to intentionally up the collateral damage of Russian operations to gain victim points on Twitter
>torture and execute Russian POWs
>refuse to denounce literal cannibalistic Ukes who post their Rus meals on social media
>lie about every single bombardment of Uke military forces as though they were civies
>advocate for cutting off medical supplies to Russian civies

WOW, Why won't Darth Putin let us '''''collect our war dead''''' within firing range of their positions in door to door urban combat???!!!

That's from the official site of the Cuban Communist party so I don't think they can be counted out; that said we may never know as they also practice good opsec

That's 100% related.

We haven't touched them since 1989, that's 33 years. I have my suspicions why but that's for another thread.

I know they're still on good terms, but the support they get now is a literal fraction of what they used to get. Plus the Cuban military is so obsolete it makes the 2014 Ukrainian military look like a borderline superpower in comparison.

You are probably right about that but a lot of the residents have a soft spot for Russia and Russians. My stepmother speaks fluent Russian, I'm sure she isn't the only Cuban that does. The Cuban military is well trained and disciplined; maybe they don't have the latest toys but they had/have a good reputation. I don't have any information on their current status but given they took Mao's and Che's insurgency doctrines and refined them in Latin America I think they would be of use, if they were asked to participate and accepted.

Oh I have no doubt there's plenty of Cubans who would if they had a chance, but even if Cuba wants to send people over, it's just not practical with the geography. No country they would need to either fly over or whose water they'd have to sail through would allow it, and that matters given Ukraines location. They'd pretty much have to either fly or sail to the Siberian end of Russia, then go all the way across Russia.

So this is the tactical situation as I see it after a month.

Russias hope for a quick victory is over. This war is probably going to last at least until next year unless something significantly changes diplomatically or politically. On that front both sides have unacceptable demands to the other.

Tactically, Ukraine is going to lose Mariople eventually but Russias northern front is unsustainable. The troops around Kiev and Kharkiv are going to have to retreat now that Russia has chosen to focus on its gains in the east and South. Russia clearly still wants Odessa, but until Mariople is secured that ain't happening.

Which means with the invasion stalled the ball is in Ukraines court now. Russia cannot freeze this conflict like last time. This war is a game for all the marbles and that means Ukraine is going to try and drive Russia out of the south. Preparing for the offensive is going to take time though, at least until May, or June. In the mean time Zelenskiy is going to ham for the cameras about how Ukraine just wants peace uWu. Everyone knows that BS, because the current situation is unacceptable to both sides.

Ukraine has paid too high a price stopping the Russian invasion to throw the towel in now, while Russia has paid too high a price securing what they've gotten to pull out either. So April and much of May is going to be a slug fest with very little border changes and pointless negotiation. By summer unless Russia has massively reinforced its front Ukraine will go on the offensive.

It's a war in Europe after all. Everyone assumes they will be quick and inevitably they drag on, are never over by Christmas and always cost way more then even the most pessimistic projections.

The Cubans WERE good decades ago, but nowadays? Doubt it, they haven't fought much of a war for ages. It would also be incredibly stupid since Cuba shot their economy to hell and back funding their expeditions to Africa. Cuba's economy has barely recovered since the USSR fell, they have no ability to.
