Most of those Italian and German republics were oligarchical in nature most of the time.
so are modern democratic states. the main difference is that back in the good old times you couldnt buy votes so easy because only people with the right kind of assets were allowed to vote.

in my hometown you needed to own a house or be member of one of 10 or so guilds to vote.(woman could also vote if they were the head of the household).

giving the vote to poor people was the biggest mistake ever.

somebody slept in history 101... Nowgorod and peskow were democratic city states just like some places places in western europe.

thats total BS coming from uneducated people from the Colonies.
There were all kinds of Democratic countries in europe for a loong time, San Marino has been a republic for 1700 years.
@Stoneheart has made a very, very good point here. Americans, in general, do two things wrong. First, they assume everyone else on Earth is just like they are. Second, they don't study enough history/geography and the schools don't teach enough history/geography.

The roots of many conflicts in today's world go back centuries. Look at the Middle East - they've been fighting for seemingly forever. The roots of the Russian-Ukrainian war go back centuries. Russia's history is nothing like ours. Russia as a nation has been through things we should get down on our knees and thank God not to have experienced.

From talking to some younger people these days, they know little even of WWII history, and have no knowledge of the Holodomor, or course. They listen and are interested when I provide info. Never had anyone just walk away.

History didn't start in 1975. Yet one need not read long accounts of world history from the year zero to be fairly up on history. I'd say get a general overview of how countries came to be, and get deeper into countries, say, from the mid-19th century.

Armed with a basic knowledge of Russian history, it's easy to see why Putin attacked the Ukraine. Only a mystery if one has no knowledge of Russian history. Doesn't excuse the aggression, but does explain where the man is coming from. When you look through many Russians' eyes, this war makes sense, least until the sanctions bite them in the ass with fangs of steel.

Far as geography goes, everyone should know the continents, and which countries are on which continent. War is no way to learn geography, but that's how most Americans learn their geography. When you know where a country is located, easy enough to pull up a map and find rivers, cities, and major land/coastal features.

NOT rocket science. Nothing ANYONE here cannot do. If I can get that knowledge, so can anyone else.

Knowledge is power. Being too cool for school or failing to get that knowledge not only fucks yourself, but places you at the mercy of those who have that knowledge. And such people have no problem fucking you over six ways from Sunday.

From a pro-Russia account so take it as you want:

Dmytro Yarosh is an Ukrainian activist, politicion. Yarosh calls himself a follower of Bandera and likes to parade in boy scouts uniforms.

Dimwit. I posted a fallen hero, a champion kick boxer, in front of black sun, made famous years ago by a well known chicken farmer. What has got so confused as so say I was denying the symbols of continuing resistance? Mariupol still hasn't fallen. Monkey Tsar isn't benefitting from your e fellatio.
one step forward, three steps back. dumb faggot.

He claimed he was in Ukraine near the beginning of the war, before being exposed when he released footage of him driving around in a captured Ukrainian truck obviously in Grozny.
Missed this but not surprised hence the 'apparently'. Maybe it's in Grozny or maybe he got flown in for a photo op and then quickly home

well Major countries are enough. nobody needs to know where CAR or FYROM are.

Holodomor is just oldschool leftwing propaganda. there was no genocide, It was just marxism 101. they came up with a funny name and backstory for it because they realy wanna try marxism again and again.

They now want an ideological and cultural lebensraum.
If only Reddit allowed avatars like xenforo does, or a way to find out what they look like. I guarantee you this individual would be first in line to suck Putin's cock, if Putin one day went unironically insane and decided to pull a Red Dawn.

It's also the way they write, that is interesting as well. They don't use big bravado words or curse words, just boring dull polite words, when put together, would not be out of place in some Hitler speech or 1920s era American progressive eugenicists talking points.

I remember Tucker brought it up a while ago, some sort of polite fascism that has been growing for the past few decades.

Despite not having an avatar, I think we can safely assume this person is fat, unwashed, and possibly has fetal alcohol syndrome.

I was very disappointed in that guy because he's usually insightful otherwise.
geopolitics and war turn some people retarded. I'm gonna try my best to not judge these people too harshly for having an objectively bad opinion. This stuff is a more nuanced than russia bad, ukraine good, or vice versa.

Russian necromancers have learned to revive high-ranking creatures.

According to the statements of the Ukrainian troops, General Mordvichev was already the fifth commander killed.

But here is a video from yesterday of General Mordvichev meeting with Kadyrov.

Okay, so as it stands, of the 7 generals the Ukies can claimed, Moscow has confirmed one, and two have had video evidence to the contrary emerge. General Mordichev here was claimed during an artillery strike on Kherson airfield on the 18th of March. His unit, 8th Guards Combined Arms Army, appears to be operating as the Southern Front headquarters for the war, so taking videos with Chechens checks out. For my own wager, he probably got buried in a collapsed building or something, and the Ukies intercepted a radio call about him being missing or down.
