Just watching the voiced clips on rwby makes my skin crawl.

I did read the first two volume manga of the previous miwa manga and the official manga and holy shit, it is night and day how miwa is so much better than the new one. miwa funny faces are great

Having the characters being voiceless in my read also really helps the story, since the obnoxious american voice acting is gone. Still, it is quite boring so far, since it is mostly a retread of the earlier volumes.

Alright. now lets actually dig into the meat and bones of what the plot is likely about.

Dictator Weiss!

This was the very first promo released in Feburary, and judging by Gen's involvement it seems highly likely they will change the story to have Weiss take over her father's company and become a villain.

I think it's pretty genius, she's one of the more uninteresting members in my opinion and it would lead to a larger divide between her and blake. They might even have Blake go rogue and join back up with the fang too. Blake was kinda radiating school shooter vibes when I was going over the trailer.

On a more hilarious note, apparently some youtuber noticed that Weiss's redesign looks very similar to exdeath from the series Akame ga Kill! Never saw it, but It would be hilarious if they make her that vicious a character overtime.

Always liked the stories where long time best friends become distant and later villainous at each other the most. Don't know why, guess I'm just an edgy realist who likes change and chaos. That's probably why I mostly enjoyed The Fox and the Hound, Grand Theft Auto V (pre-climax), etc. And the only time I could ever be able to withstand and read a shitty fanfic of the overrated garbage known as My Little Pony was one dealing with that exact concept. Having this be a main conflict for the future of the anime would definitely make me actually care for RWBY and not just for Roman.

About the Faunus thing, the designs could be left alone and it's more about the writing that nails a plot about racial divides. I said this before in this thread, real humans can treat each other like dogshit and the only visible difference is skin colour, everything else is in the mind. All it needs is a non braindead writer who understands racism isn't zero to a lazy NO FAUNUS ALLOWED sign. The fanbase who actually like RWBY wouldn't appreciate it however, I've seen them retroactively go back and crucify Yang for the laser pointer bit so an actual nuanced take on those storylines would probably give them heart attacks for being too real.

The new anime just needs to pick a tone and stick with it; I gotta say I hope they don't make it dark and gritty. The entertainment world is so saturated with serious, 'realistic' stories that it would actually be refreshing if nu-RWBY embraced its roots as an anime-wannabe that wanted the comedy moments with crunchy action. Maybe something like DMC in tone which is still 'mature' but it's not fucking depressing to experience. It doesn't need to tell a Ukraine-tier modern war story with plots about PTSD to be impactful and too many people conflate that with any show being able to have high-stakes, RT already tried it and drove RWBY into the ground post-V4 and, even though this is SHAFT and Urobuchi, they don't have a track record of 'grounded' darkness either and are better at surreal mindfucks (could go well with Salem and the nature of Grimm).

What the fuck does "Canon adjecent" even fucking mean??? Having a completely different story after the first two episodes is absolutely not canon by any description. Just be honest and say this is just an AU already.

Hell, it should have just embraced not being canon, because the fucking canon sucks ass. So either this is a blatant lie about it being "faithful" to the clusterfuck canon, or its actually faithful to the clusterfuck. I would like it to be the former in all honesty.

Just so sick of RT trying to dance around the truth with these long ass "emotional" corporate posts.

It's taking place between V2 and V3, you should actually read what the post was saying.

I’m assuming it’s like Arcane to League of Legends, where the shit that goes down can easily fit into the main thing, even if it’s its own continuity.

How would that work?

So did RWBY: Grimm Eclipse. And how did that turn out?

How would that work?
It being faithful to the contradictory mess that is the canon? Not at all. Which is why its best to simply ignore the canon and make up your own AU bullshit. If they try to stick with the canon it will be just as much of a clusterfuck as it usually is.

The trailer that showed bits and pieces of the V1 and V2 recap alone takes some deviations from the source material. Mix in all the new designs along with V2 and V3 having little to no time skip (Not that its clear since time is never really established in RWBY) and this shit is Shonen Anime movie levels of canon at best.

I really don't care that much in the grand scheme of things, I am just perturbed by RT's shitty PR for this thing and trying to appease everyone (which of course appeases no one).

And how would you do that?

What are these deviations you speak of?

I mean, at least it takes place during the seasons everyone really liked.
Score one for Japan, I guess.
