It's only a 9mm, but they're tiny and light little guns, so the recoil impulse is going to be pretty snappy no matter what you do.

The best thing to do is to go to a range and get used to it, which I'm sure she'll never, ever do.

I have a buddy who carries one and swears by it. Not sure if it is the same as the EC9S but it is a Ruger compact 9MM. Very similar model. I have put a mag through it and the recoil is what you would expect but it doesn't kick back as hard as my own Taurus 9mm. It's probably a decent starter pistol for someone who isn't insane.

Yeah, I've got a Smith & Wesson Shield Plus which I like a lot.

It's hard to go wrong with any of those new micro-compacts.
